Green fingers (we hope!)

The boys have been desperate to plant some seeds in the garden so we took a trip to Home Depot and bought some pots, potting compost, some flowers and some seeds.

The 6yo goes to Garden Club at his school and back in March he’d planted a couple of cucumber seeds which had sprouted and needed to be transplanted into something bigger!

We planted some flowers so that the pots didn’t look completely barren and the 4yo had a great time making the holes for the plants to drop into.

The 4yo also planted a variety of seeds – if even some of them actually sprout, we’re going to need more pots! We planted some Morning Glory and Sweet Peas alongside some Petunia plants. We also planted some more cucumber, peas, basil and watermelon (we’re definitely going to need a bigger pot!). Our neighbour then popped some lettuce seeds in too!

I will admit now that I know nothing about gardening… I have no idea whether any of these seeds will grow – and if they actually do, I have no idea what to do with them then! The packets tell me to ‘thin’ them… I suspect that exercise is more likely to kill them, but we’ll see! In the meantime, we are remembering to water them and the boys are watching for any signs of green shoots!

Watch this space!

  1. Oh that’s fab. Pretty much what we are growing too. Courgettes are good to grow – the sprout quickly and are big baby plants, so my two love them – quick wins! Looking forward to seeing the pictures as they develop :) xx

  2. Wow! Great pictures indeed. Kids love the whole gardening bit don’t they?! We’ve got sunflowers on the go, although I’m hoping they do better than last year, when I planted a few seeds straight into the garden! (They’re currently on the window sill in little pots!) I’m learning… and little by little my finger tips are turning green!
