No sooner had I written and published the details of my terrible (albeit funny) afternoon, my 4yo woke up, rolling around and moaning in pain.
He’d been complaining of a sore tummy during the afternoon – but that had been interspersed with running around like a mad thing – so I hadn’t been too concerned. He asked to go to bed at 5.30 though, so I was starting to get a little worried.
Hearing him cry in pain when he woke was horrendous, so we bundled him up and hubby took him to the ER. We are not generally given to panic in our house and tend to deal with things calmly and pragmatically. Last night, he needed to see a doctor.
I sat up waiting to hear news.
When a child is in that much pain in their tummy you think ‘appendix’. And sure enough, one of the first updates I got from hubby was that the Boston Children’s Hospital had been mentioned as ‘they have a kids sized CAT Scanner there to check for appendix…’.
They started an IV and took bloods. The 4yo is not good with needles, really not good. Kicking, screaming, scaring the other patients…
They then did an x-ray which (thankfully?) indicated constipation, not appendix. Big sigh of relief all round. And one very brave boy.

These photos made me cry. I just wanted to give him a big hug and make it all go away.
My gorgeous boy dictated this message for me:
I love you, lots of hugs and kisses. I am getting better. I got stickers of a bear and Bob the Builder and they’re all for us. And that’s all actually.
They got home around 12.30am.
He is still not quite himself, but he’s on the mend. I’m exhausted.
No more nights like that please.

Shuuu! so glad he does not need surgery. Get some rest mommy! Ugh! This parenting thing can be hard.
Thank you! It can indeed be hard, and exhausting! I’m off to bed now, definitely in need of a decent nights sleep :)
Happy to hear that he’s OK. Get some rest, you must be exhausted x
Thank you xx I am indeed exhausted, although my early night is now not so early! Typically :) I will never learn!
Bless him. It’s horrible when out babies are in pain. Hope he feels better soon xxx
Isn’t it? You just want to magic it away :( He’s doing much better today, thank you – medicine seems to be doing the trick xx
