Frazzled mummy moments…

Frazzled Mummy Moments

Update 4 November 2014: I am linking this old post up with the very lovely Sam over at And Then The Fun Began for her new linky The Truth About… I regularly have days like this, I try not to dwell on them, but do you ever feel like the world is conspiring against you and that things come in, not just threes, but tens? The last couple of days would fall into this category, the vomiting child at 1.30am being the straw that broke this camels back!

Ever had one of those days? You know the ones, where everything (especially your children) conspires against you?

The wee girl managed to spread Duplo throughout our downstairs. One poor little Duplo person did not survive it’s visit to the kitchen – I thought they were tougher than that, or maybe I’m putting on weight – and I won’t dwell on how much it hurt my foot!

Just before nap she poured a cup of water all down her front, thus necessitating a full change of clothes before I could get my quiet time she could have her nap.

So, nap was a bit late. She was still asleep when we needed to leave to go to the 4yo’s end of year party at nursery.

[Yes, he is now on holiday until September – thinking of this too much results in a chorus of ‘la la la’ in my head – I am in denial.]

I had to wake her up. She cried, a lot. Refused lunch. Instead ate ice cream at 4yo’s party.

It had also started to rain, again. I forgot to change out of my sandals. There were a lot of puddles.

It was sunny this morning! The boys went to school without coats.

The 4yo was not happy walking out of preschool into the rain in a T-shirt. Thank goodness I had decided to drive..! So, instead of driving straight to the 6yo’s school, I had to drive home and grab coats.

This made me late, so I had to park miles away from the school… Well, a few yards further away than normal :)

But, my moment of glory was yet to come.

Another car was parked quite close to the back of mine. I couldn’t manoeuvre the buggy into the boot, I needed to wait until they had pulled away. No problem thought I, they have one child, I have three. They’ll be gone before I’ve managed to wrestle even one of mine in. And they were.

I got the kids in to the car, cursing the rain, my wet hair, my wet feet… And I drove the kids home.

I opened the boot.

No buggy.

So, back we go….

Poor, lonely and forlorn buggy, abandoned on the pavement – but, thankfully – exactly where I left it! Only now, very wet – raincover pulled back to allow removal of wee girl…

Finally got the boys out of the car. Went to get the wee girl. Why do you only have one shoe?!?

Looked everywhere. Just about to get the boys back in the car to go on a shoe hunt (actually wanted to cry at this point) when I saw it. She had carefully placed it, balanced, on the car door. Which of course was behind me as I frantically searched around her seat!

The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur of fighting over homework, picking the wee girl up after she’d fallen over (again and again – why did I think walking was a good thing?), tripping over Duplo, sweeping up the remains of snacks/dinner/tissues, washing a sofa cushion cover (wee girl again, tea this time – she is fast! Well, faster than me anyway. And stealthy.), fighting over homework some more, trying to dry out an exceedingly wet buggy…

Today really was one of those days!

Oh, how I laughed… Eventually.

  1. Hmm yes that leaving the buggy behind chestnut. I left mine in a car park and returned to find someone had taken it. I suppose my little maclaren buggy was too much of a temptation for the Americans.
I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

    1. Oh no! It was my MacLaren too :) Although we’ve had ours for six years, so it has definitely seen better days! Today okay so far… It was the middle of the night trip to the ER for my 4yo that was the icing on the cake…!

    1. It was – it ended with a middle of the night visit to the ER for the 4yo… Before we hit that point though, I told hubby the story of my day, and i did end up in fits, it was all so ridiculous – you couldn’t make it up!
Today can only be better! And this evening will be accompanied by a very large glass of wine :)

  2. Ah Sara – I feel your pain!! Is it just the toddler factor do you think? I have been mulling this over tonight but my five year old is currently much harder to handle than my two year old – he becomes absolutely impossible in the last couple of hours of the day. I’m actually thinking of buying a parenting handbook! This bad day though – this was the day from hell really wasn’t it! The frustrations! And now a vomiting child in the middle of the night. Thank you so much for finding the time to link up to The Truth about… despite all the mummy pressure you must be under right now! I hope it calms down a bit soon X #thetruthabout

  3. Oh no, what an awful day. It’s one of those when you just want to crawl back into bend wish the day away. Hopefully you’ve not had many more days like that! xx

Crumbs, what a day! But you got through it unscathed so well done and award yourself a glass of wine. And since I’m sure since this was written you’ve had plenty more like it, you should definitely award yourself plenty MORE glasses of wine! #thetruthabout

  5. Oh yes, I know just what you mean – I get days like that too! Why is it that some days everything seems to go wrong? Hope you’ve not had too many more days like that since! x

  6. I think we’ve all been there with you, Sara. Not that that is every any consolation when you’re stuck in the horror of that moment with things spiralling out of control. But you know what they say: a problem shared is a problem doubled. (It’s never actually ‘halved’, is it?)
