Mess: bubbles and shaving foam

The 4yo’s request this week was for ‘water messy play’ – which tied in very nicely to the theme of water play for Messy Play for Matilda Mae – so I decided to make some shaving foam paint and fill a bubble bath and let him go for it!

I mixed shaving foam with food colouring – this is so simple and the shaving foam takes the colour really well.

Surprisingly, the 6yo wanted to join in too – he is often not that interested in our messy play activities – so we ended up with a colourful, messy bath time!

At first the shaving foam was used as paint for the walls. They smeared and swiped, rubbed and mixed the colours together. The 6yo was keen on making shapes once he had smeared the foam, but the 4yo just wanted to make as much mess as possible :)

Then they started to play with the foam – squeezing and squishing it through their fingers. Seeing how much they could coat their hands with it.

Then it was time to paint themselves :) This was the activity they enjoyed the most – covering themselves in coloured foam!

Finally the shaving foam was mixed into the bath water. They swirled and stirred the foam into the water – making potions :)

This was a really simple and quick activity, that made bath time really fun. To clean up (both the bath and the boys!), I turned the shower on!

I suspect that I will be asked to do this again :)

I’m linking up with Jennie at Edpsire for the wonderful Messy Play for Matilda Mae linky, click on the badge below to have a look at some of the other great posts – and perhaps get some inspiration!
