If there was ever a competition to find the worlds best procrastinators, my husband and I would win, hands down.
We had been talking about taking a week for a proper family holiday for months.
Had we actually booked anything? Of course not!
Suddenly realising that the two weeks we had set aside for this holiday were fast approaching, and by that I mean we had less than a week to go, hubby quickly booked the time off work (?!) and we started trying to find somewhere to stay…
We knew that we wanted to take the kids to Storyland (a theme park that has been recommended to us by just about everyone we know!) in the White Mountains area of New Hampshire.
There are also loads of other things to do nearby, as well as Mount Washington (the highest mountain in the Northeastern US) with its cog railway.
Unsurprisingly, during the summer it’s quite popular… Finding accommodation was a little tricky. With young children, we prefer to stay somewhere with a kitchen, more than one bedroom and (goes without saying) wifi :)
I think my husband was beginning to panic a little!
But then he found a resort of self catering apartments, about 15 minutes from Storyland. We booked our six night stay on Tuesday…
We set off this morning, survived the three hour drive unscathed (neither of the car sick prone children threw up!), had a bite of lunch on the way and arrived just in time for check in!
The apartment is perfect; spacious and tastefully decorated, with a great kitchen; and set in lovely wooded grounds.
The boys have already checked out the pool! I have unpacked :)
As I sit and write this, we have two children already in bed, one asleep! The oldest is playing battleships with daddy…
There is a bottle of fizz in the fridge with my name on it!
We are actually on holiday, away from home. No errands, no pressure, no deadlines.
It is finally time to relax :)

It sounds absolutely heavenly! Make sure you enjoy and switch off for a bit!! Well done on surviving the car trip…I haven’t been game enough to try that one with my twins yet!
Ah, the car trip… We’ve been very reluctant to travel to far in the car, but realised we were missing out on so much, and we won’t be over here forever, so decided we had to just go for it! We’ve been having a wonderful time – proper family time, and so much laughter :)
