When do kids start to get jokes?
I mean really get them; know how to tell them; understand the concept of a punchline; actually get the joke?
Slapstick is easy – you see someone get a pie in the face or fall over in a ridiculous way, you laugh. The success of You’ve Been Framed proves that.
Toilet humour, also easy – well, with my boys anyway! – there is no joke, per say, just a competition to be as revolting as possible.
At the weekend, my boys set up a joke, told it, and I fell for it.
A first, worthy of remembering? A milestone? A somewhat slow on the uptake mummy?!
7yo: Mummy, I see you under there.
Me: What, sweetheart?
7yo: I see you under there mummy.
Me: You see me under where?
Get it…? Took me a minute!
Cue two boys hysterically giggling, ‘you see my underwear, you see my underwear, mummy just said, “you see my underwear”!!!’
Boys!

Wow that’s very clever for a 7 yo I think!
Thank you! He was quite pleased with himself :)
Hehehe! Took me a second to get it doh, little cuties x
Yeah, my husband was in fits and I was. ‘Huh?? Oh…!’
Ha! What a little comedian ;) xx #funee
Hmm! He certainly thinks so – but he’s got potential :)
Funniness is all in the confidence and belief in your delivery and it already sounds like he has that in bucketloads.
It really is, isn’t it? And, he certainly does think he’s funny – and I have to admit, he is at times!
Giggling like a 7 year old as I read this – fab #wotsofunee
He he, it was pretty good!
Haha, great #funee and my sense of humour is at a perfect level for my 7yo’s jokes at the moment, we get,
What’s your name?

Ha, that’s brilliant! Just the sort of joke my 7yo would love :)
Eyeroll humour. But at least it IS humour finally as opposed to Why did the tiger cross the road? Because it wanted an ice-cream… ??
Very true :) And I have to say, it did make everyone laugh!
