Toddlers and stairs!

The wee girl has been able to climb up the stairs for months. Stair gates were installed some time ago!

Climbing up is the easy bit, it’s learning to come back down again (safely!) that’s tricky.

We started getting her to turn around and come down things backwards – getting off the sofa, the bed etc. But, ultimately, she needs to learn how to walk down the stairs.

As a starter, we’ve been encouraging her to bump down on her bum. We hadn’t realised she had this particular skill sussed until a couple of weekends ago when she managed to come down our back steps entirely on her own!

And, what does an achievement like that need – why, a bow of course :)

  1. Aww what a lovely post. Just love the pictures, as you scroll down it’s like actually watching her bump down the stairs! She’s such a cutie xx

  2. Heart in the throat moments, but such a massive achievement for her – well done holding the camera instead of hovering! I’m always amazed by how these things suddenly seem to come into focus for them.

  3. How sweet is that! My toddler’s still a little afraid to use stairs, and maybe I’m more afraid than him!

  4. Love it, they do like to show off their new skills when we aren’t expecting it don’t they?! I’m so glad she has mastered this new skill in the safe way. We just went straight for jumping down the stairs, both feet at a time!!!

Thanks for linking up with Small Steps Amazing Achievements :0)
