50 Books 2013: Update [11/12]

The 2013 challenge has come to an end. I didn’t manage to read 50 books, but I did make it to 27 which I think is quite respectable! I will however be trying my hardest to beat this total in 2014 :)

Book 25
Allegiant – Veronica Roth.
This is the final book in the trilogy that began with Divergent and continued in Insurgent. I loved the first two books and I was not disappointed in the slightest with the finale. Great pace, exciting developments and a heartbreaking, although fitting, ending. I loved it! I now can’t wait for the first of the films to be released…

Book 26
Where’d You Go, Bernadette – Maria Semple
I read this for my local moms group book club. I don’t think I would have chosen it otherwise! It was an interesting read, but for someone who generally reads books that are divorced from reality, I found the main character’s disconnection from the real world a little grating, and often not credible. It had a slow start, and although it gained momentum once the titular Bernadette disappeared, it’s not a book I would read again. Having said all that, several of the others who read it, loved it :)

Book 27
Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn
I’m a bit behind the times with this one, but having managed to avoid all spoilers, I finally read Gone Girl! I really enjoyed it. It was clever and original and surprising. I will say no more, as I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read it yet…

I did start Book 28, 11/22/63 by Stephen King, but didn’t manage to finish before the New Year. It will be Book 1 for the #50Books2014 :)
