Most of this week has been cold, wet and miserable. So much so that I had to put the foot muff back on the buggy! Coupled with the wee girl coming down with an ear infection, this hasn’t been a very outdoors week for us.
Today started out chilly and misty, but by mid-morning the clouds had cleared and it was sunny, and not only was it sunny but it was warm too. Warm enough to get the water table out of the basement and back into action.
The wee girl was thrilled! Antibiotics have perked her up no end and she was desperate to get outside. She jumped up and down and squealed when she saw the water table :)
Of course, water play inevitably led to the creation of puddles for stamping in…
In the end, the boots came off and the puddles were explored by toes and hands…
Nap time came far too soon, and a most unimpressed little girl was taken inside, protesting all the way!
Once the 7yo and 5yo were home (from school and a play date respectively) it was time for a water fight. The boys had been asking me all week if they could have one, and I had said no. Partly because it was far too cold and partly because I couldn’t face the inevitable cold, wet, grumpy boys!
Today, it took about 20 minutes to get to the grumpy stage! But until then, they had a blast…
After a tiring week with hubby away on business, emergency doctors appointments, rain, wind and cold; it was simply lovely to get out in the garden today and hear laughter and squealing. I stood and watched, and dodged the hose, and felt my mood lift and a smile spread across my face. What a difference some sunshine makes.
I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill again this week. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

Just something about water blasters that kids can’t resist! Love the photos of Wee one at her water table.
There is, isn’t there?! She loves that table :)
Love it, happy smiles and sunshine!
Thank you, me too!
We love our water table! It is partly filled with sand at the moment. Milin has loved getting it out again for the year and my nine month old can’t wait to get her hands stuck in too! x
It was such a good buy, we’ve had so much use out of ours :)
You’re so right – sunshine does make a real difference, and it sounds like you’ve had a tough week. Glad it ended on a high, the kids look so happy.
I really needed a sunny day, have to say!
Aww looks like they all had lots of fun, its great to be able to have water play in the garden on a sunny day isn’t it? Such easy entertainment! Love the water fight too, even if it did only last 20 mins before grumpiness! We used to have epic water fights as a kid and hope to do the same with monkey when he’s older! Xx #countrykids
It was great to see them having so much fun! Water fights generally end in tears when one of the boys gets hit full on in the face :)
Twenty minutes sounds pretty good to me. Especially as its not the warmest. The little girl looks totally engrossed in the water tower. Good to see she’s feeling better. #CountryKids
She loves the water table, was our best buy of last summer :)
Oh yes, what a difference sunshine and warmth make! Our two are exactly the same with water-insistent they want to play and then grumpy when it all gets too much :-)
Gorgeous photo’s x
It’s amazing how long they can play with it, but yes, they do suddenly get grumpy!
Hooray for the sunshine and good moods! I’m so glad the wee girl is feeling much better and able to be out having fun in the garden with her fab water table. I love the fact that she was having a full sensory experience by taking off her wellies and socks! Thanks for linking up and sharing your outdoor fun with Country Kids – roll on the Summer in the UK.
Absolutely, it makes such a difference! The wellies always seem to come off :)
That water table looks amazing!! I really need to get one for our garden, can’t beat getting outside in the sunshine and water fights are always fun :) #countrykids
It was our best buy of last summer, hours of fun! So simple too :)
what a lovely weather! i am glad that your weather is now water hosing friendly! I really love the new layout of your blog too (is it just me? you made some changes right???). Moments like this makes me want to wish for another child hehe. Cuz I have an only child and I think its more fun if you have someone your age range to play with =) #countrykids
Me too, so nice to see the sun :) My kids do enjoy playing with each other, it’s great that they can now keep each other entertained. And, thank you, I have been playing with my blog layout/design :)
It’s amazing how kids can just have a blast with just playing with water! :) Glad your little girl is feeling better. #CountryKids.
I know, such a simple thing, but hours of entertainment :)
I’ve been tempted to get ours out today!
Looks like they had so much fun!
It’s so good to have it back out in the garden, the kids love it :)
fresh air fun makes all the difference some days!
It really does x
They look like they are having so much fun. Ah the little things in life… #CountryKids
Isn’t it :)
Yay for weather warm enough for water play! Looks like all of your kiddos had a great time!
Hear, hear! They love water play :)
We have been using the paddling pool for a few weeks now, so no dearth of sunshine! I hope your good weather stays, and wee girl is feeling better :)
I really hope this is the start of better weather for us, it’s been a long winter!
It must be such a relief to be back outside and have some sunshine! It looks like your children were really enjoying themselves.
Gosh, yes, it really is!
Sounds lovely. Water play is always good fun till the bitter end!
Absolutely :)
I can’t get over how much the wee girl has grown! Scary. I’m thinking our water table will probably be too small for Monkey this year :(
I know, it is scary! I think we’ll safely get another year out of ours! Having said that, the 5yo will play with it for a bit too, although generally as part of a water fight :)
Waterplay is great isn’t it, I really must clean up our water tray and get it out for the girls to play with. #countrykids
It’s the best, it can keep them amused for ages!
I have to keep an eagle eye on my little one in the garden as he will seek out water whatever the weather. Kids just love water play, don’t they?
And if it’s sunny and warm then it is especially fun and as parents we can enjoy their antics all the more without worries for them catching colds.
They really do love water! And, yes the warmer weather makes such a difference :)
What fun you all look to have had. I can’t wait to get our water table set up. We’ve been busy on the few really nice days we’ve had so far.
It was fun, and it’s been used every day since :)
