Over the last few months the wee girl has become less and less keen on being confined to the buggy so, the job of teaching her not to run away has begun.
I have to admit that I have tended to keep her in the buggy as much as possible because, well, she’s a runner and she has no fear… Never a backward glance for her poor mother!
She will however happily walk hand in hand with her brothers. And, it’s lovely. The boys take such good care of her, and when they are together I have fewer heart lurching moments as she makes another bid for freedom.
I remember going through this with the boys, the battle over holding my hand or holding on to the stroller. The threat of being strapped back in if they didn’t comply. We very briefly toyed with reins, but neither of them really needed them. They mostly stayed beside us.
The wee girl is altogether a different animal! And, I have been tempted to resort to reins… But we’ve persevered and although she still occasionally runs away, she will now walk beside us (not keen on actually holding my hand!) and she will stop when told to. She’s learning to freeze, she’s learning about roads. She is now allowed to escape the confines of the buggy much more often, and gets put back in far less often!
Especially if she can walk hand in hand with her big brothers.
It’s been far too long since I linked up with the lovely Katie at Mummy Daddy Me for Ordinary Moments; life has been a little chaotic, but I miss capturing these everyday moments; like this magical one of my three happily holding hands.

I think it’s so lovely for a little girl to have a protective big and baby brother! I have both and even now we are still close :)
I love it, it’s so wonderful to see the relationship developing x
Oh what gorgeous photos – and a lovely moment to treasure; she looks so happy to be on the loose!
Thank you, she loves being allowed to escape!
Oh these pictures and moments are beautiful. What beautiful relationships captured. Made me smile xx
Thank you, I love seeing them walking hand in hand, the wee girl is always in the middle :)
AHhh Sara these are stunning photos. I love them! So beautiful to have brothers’ love and protection on both sides older and younger. I loved having brothers growing up they were so fun and adventurous and oh so protective of me. Such a sweet moment to capture. #ordinarymoments
Thank you Jenny x
Ah it’s lovely to have you back and with such a great post as well. That photo is absolutely adorable, what a lucky little girl to have two big brothers to protect and look after her. I did pretty well with my biggest girl, she never was a huge runner offer (is that a word haha!) but I have a feeling LL my youngest is going to be an entirely different experience. ;) x
Thanks Katie. It’s lovely to be back! Yes, the boys were never too bad, they didn’t run, well quite so far anyway! The wee girl just keeps going… :)
Awww the prettiest photo. I always love how your sons takes care of your daughter. So much love there =)
We went on a camping & theres a daughter of my husband’s friend. She is so nice to him. While we are walking my son tried walking beside her and she let her. Then after few minutes my son tried holding her hand and she let him! And they never let go of each others hand the whole camping trip! I am the happiest mother as the girl is older and usually girls her age is snobbish of my son. But her, she is special. She let my son into her world. I am so thankful of that. #ordinarymoments
Oh, that’s lovely Merlinda, really special x
What beautiful pictures. Just adorable. My older ones never ran off but have a feeling that my youngest might. She’s a monster hee hee x
It seems to be the thing for the youngest :)
Such a beautiful photo, especially of her turning around. It’s these little moments that really are very special isn’t it. My heart fills with happiness when I see my two holding hands-best feeling in the world :)
They really are, and so easy to forget x
Such a big step giving up the buggy, somehow the passing of an era, but lovely to see the support from her brothers there. A real Mummy moment watching that.
Definitely, although I’m not quite ready to give it up completely :)
Normal moments are the best, lovely photos x
Thank you x
That is a gorgeous family photo. Both of mine are runners! Boo still runs now, so of course if Little Man’s free, he follows her! She had reins when she was younger and I’ve just dug them out ready for Little Man, too, though he is a bit happier to hold my hand than Boo ever was – she wants freedom!! X
Thank you Jocelyn, she’s still a runner, but she is definitely getting better :)
Oh I love the first photo Sara but the second is just perfectly captured – how wonderful. It’s great to hear she’s being more independent but safer with it. POD is a total liability when it comes to roads, staying safe and running off. It’s unnerving! We have the buggy with us just in case, I guess this is the downside of not having a sibling. Love that the three of them are looking after each other here. Thank you so much for sharing with #whatsthestory x
See you Friday!
Thank you Charly. She still has her moments, she ran the full length of the supermarket yesterday before I caught her…! Thanks for hosting x
This is so cute! How lovely that her big brothers take such good care of her.
My little boy is starting to fight the buggy too, and recently he has been trying to run. He never gets far as he’s still a bit unsteady (think duck trying to waddle as fast as possible) but I fear it’s only a matter of time…
They really do take care of her. My little girl ran the length of the supermarket yesterday…
Such an adorable photo. She’s lucky to have her big brothers to look out for her :) x
Thank you, she is a very lucky girl x
Oh those photos are gorgeous! How perfect are your children! I love that instead of being in a pushchair she is holding her brothers’ hands. Those are things that the children will remember forever, holding hands as they grow x
PS, following on Bloglovin, don’t think I’ve seen your blog before and just the photos have got me following! x
Thank you Donna, that’s lovely x I love your blog too, your two are gorgeous :) I absolutely love it when they walk hand in hand like this, such special moments x
