Since the weather has started to improve the wee girl has become very keen on doing a spot of gardening! Every morning when we get back from the school run she grabs her scoop (yes, I have tried to get her to use a watering can!) and runs back and forth from the water table to a flower bed under one of the trees.
Clearly, most of the water has spilled by the time she reaches the plants, but she is not deterred. She pours a few drops on to the soil, rubs it in (!) and then runs back to the water table for more. She is very determined to water one particular plant. Always the same plant!
She ends up wet, with filthy hands, but she can spend half an hour just running to and fro! She particularly enjoys rubbing and patting the wet soil, almost as if she’s making sure that water is getting right in there and doing its job.
It’s very fun to watch her, she gets ridiculously excited as she tries to run with a scoop full of water… I’m sure she’ll eventually work out that a watering can, or even a bucket, would be better.
I’m hoping that this is a sign that she will help me with the gardening; this year we haven’t planted anything (tut tut), but I have lots of plans for a vegetable plot next year. At the very least she should enjoy helping me with the watering :)
I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill, as always. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

Looks like she’s getting stuck right in & enjoying herself. Love her little dress too x
Thank you, she was having a great time :)
Oh that is so sweet! You need a cucumber or pumpkin in a pot. They love being watered. #CountryKids
I know! I need to get some things planted for her… But hoping to have a new garden for her to explore soon, so I’ve been holding off a bit :)
Those photos are adorable and it has brought back early memories of mine doing something similar. Lovely to watch and just observe their behaviour sometimes without intervening as adults. Thank you for joining me on Country Kids.
Yes, I just sit and watch, she’s happy to do her own thing. Love it! Thanks for hosting x
Adorable shots of her running back and forth and tending the plants – or I should say one plant. Children do love gardening when they get involved.
They really do :) lovely to see them engaged x
How lovely to have a little helper so keen- my son loves helping too and always has so I think you’ve got a gardening pal there :) Such a sweetie x
Thanks, it’s so lovely to watch her. To be encouraged :)
She looks so happy doing it! And great to have something that keeps he busy :)
Absolutely, she would water that plant for hours!
Love how focused and determined she is trying to water her garden. And yes, it is always that one plant that gets all the tlc and all the water! #countrykids
Funny isn’t it, they always focus on one thing :)
Beautiful photos – looks like your wee girl is having a lot of fun :-)
Thank you x She certainly was, did the same thing every morning this week :)
She’s so cute :) Little T also likes to help me water the plants. She loves her watering can, and yes, it’s pink! #CountryKids.
Maybe I should get the wee girl a special pink one… :)
What a keen gardener! I always love kids who do love activities like this one. Just something about being exposed to nature, earth and life =) #countrykids
She would spend all day outside if I let her :)
Aww, bless her. She looks like she’s really determined to make that plant grow. What a sweetie! #countrykids
She loves that plant :)
Oh that is so adorable. I am not very green fingered but am hoping to get my two involved in gardening and planting seeds. At the moment they love using the hose to water each other rather than the garden!#countrykids xx
I’m not either, but I enjoy planting seeds with the kids :) My boys would water each other too…
Aww I love this, they’re so cute at that age when they are so intently busy, even if it’s kind of pointless bless them! Monkey loves gardening too and the mud and wet are totally worth it to see the so happy! xx #countrykids
It really is worth, her smiles and giggles make the mud worthwhile :)
That’s so sweet, I bet she’ll be a great help next year and will really enjoy it #CountryKids
Thanks, I hope so :)
Aww what a cutie, she looks like she is in her element. #countrykids
Thank you :)
Aw! The Wee Girl is sooo cute! And I was thinking that she reminded me of someone when I realised it was the hair – I think I had very simila kind of hair when I was her age looking at old photos (not saying she looks like me in general :-) ) I love her tenacity with that one plant! Maybe it’s a beanstalk?…
How funny :) She is definitely tenacious!
Beautiful photos – she looks like she’s having so much fun in the garden! And I don’t blame her! :) x
she loves it, she asks to go outside all the time, it’s great x
