My cousin and I spent the day in Boston on Thursday, visiting one of my favourite places; the Museum of Fine Art. Before heading home we took a walk through central Boston, doing a little shopping at Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.
Our walk took us through the New England Holocaust Memorial. This is a sombre and reflective outdoor space; accessible to the public at all times; and one which I always take a moment to walk through.
It is made up of six glass towers, which are lit up and gleam at night, which is stunning to see. The number six reflects the six million Jews killed in the holocaust, the six main camps and the six years of the war. The glass panels are inscribed with seven-digit numbers, and across the memorial there are six million numbers engraved. While they are not all unique (there are repeated sets of numbers), they form a stark reminder of the numbers tattooed on to the arms of the six million victims.
I’m joining in with Charly’s Black and White Photography Project over on PODCast.

What a beautiful memorial for such an ugly event x
A beautiful memorial to commemorate a horrific time in our history.
To take this shot in black and white makes it so much more powerful… you’ve done it justice. X
Beautifully framed-I’d love to visit both of these places one day x
Great perspective… I would love to visit the Boston area sometime and see it for myself.
That’s really moving Sara. I think war memorials (particularly in America for some reason) can be beautifully moving and artistic. I remember being very moved by the memorials in DC. They are really stunning. Great choice for a black and white shot too X #bwphotoproject
Awesome!
