Anyone who has an eight year old boy will know that it gets increasingly hard to get a photo of them smiling at you. They will make faces, they will refuse to smile, they will run away.
Much in the same way that they ration hugs and don’t like to show affection in public!
This is my 8yo’s slightly exasperated, almost a smile, pose. Really mum, you want to take another photo, can’t I just eat my ice pop in peace?

Such a handsome boy and it gets even harder as they get older! I just get the back of the head or a hand in the way now from my 13 yo!

when it comes to photographing kids, you’ve got to be really quick!
what i do is i surprise them with a quick shot and no flash — they kinda hate it haha!
