Country Kids: a lakeside play park

A Lakeside Park

This week saw the boys go back to school on Tuesday, so our lazy summer days are over again for another year. It has also, of course, been the hottest week of the summer so far!

The heat and humidity (very uncomfortable!), combined with full days at school, have meant that we’ve spent a lot less time outside this week.

As this is Labor Day weekend though, the boys are off today and Monday (three days back at school and a holiday already!). And, as a thunderstorm cleared the air yesterday, today was a day for hitting a park.

We hadn’t been to the park at Lake Quannapowitt for ages. It’s a beautiful space and on a warm, sunny day, it is wonderful to be by the water. It also has a lovely play park, with some great equipment, as well as a huge open space to run around in.

When we arrived we discovered that two school friends of the 8yo were already there, with their younger siblings too, so that was pretty much the last we saw of the boys!

The wee girl spent quite a bit of time shouting boys, boys and running to catch up!

When she wasn’t running after them she was enjoying the swings, climbing and a tunnel!

The 5yo also loves to climb and there are plenty of different things to tackle at this park.

The wee girl joined in at times, although I’m not sure that the 5yo was too impressed with her ‘help’ :)

And no trip would be complete without chasing watching the ducks!

A simple outing for us this week, as we get back into the routine of school days. Hopefully the warm weather will stay with us for a little longer so that we can continue to enjoy the local play parks in the afternoons.

I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill, as always. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

  1. It looks like some great play equipment there and the water always adds a fun dimension. I hope the new term is going well with a first day in there too. Thank you for sharing your relaxing time out on Country Kids

  2. Lovely photos! It’s back to school and back to routine for us next week. I can’t say I’m looking forward to it! We are eased in gently as all of their after school activities don’t properly kick in until the following week.

Hope your back to school goes well, I think easing us in with a three day week is a good way to go :)

It is lovely, although we don’t go as often as I’d like – probably because we are surrounded by great parks! It was actually really busy, but I always try to avoid getting other people in photos I want to publish :)

  3. It almost feels silly that they have just gone back to school and then it’s a long weekend. Ours go back to school on a Wed, whilst some schools have it as Thursday and then it’s the weekend. Makes you wonder why they didn’t just make it the following week. #countrykids

    1. True, although I think the short week was a good way to start, especially for the 5yo who feel asleep at 6pm on his first day :)

  4. It must be hard returning to school in such heat, but it looks like you found the perfect antidote at this park. I love how these things pop up around the lakes-I suppose it’s just because there’s more land and space plus greater distances to Coast and so lake parks are so popular. I loved visiting these everytime we’ve been over.

I have to say the humidity has been a killer on the school run! It is lovely having these parks next to lakes, beautiful and much more enjoyable for the parents :)

The weather has been amazing this last week, although very humid! The kids love this park :)

  5. Looks a great park and a beautiful day, as well. I can just imagine the wee girl chasing after her brothers, shouting. Even now, my youngest races after his older sisters, shouting “Girls, girls”. School starts on Wednesday for us. Looking forward to all the new projects and happenings, but at the same time, I’m going to miss them and the ability to drop everything and go. Hmm. #CountryKids

I’m missing the easy days and no rushing, but it is good to be getting back in to routine :)

  6. What a lovely playground and park. I love turning up at a place and having an impromptu, spontaneous meet up with friends. I love that photo of your daughter chasing after the boys! The clouds look amazing on that brilliant blue sky. Enjoy the rest of your long weekend x

  7. Happy Labor Day! They look so happay to have this trip! My son will start school soon and I am so scared so I hope that this time next week we are already settled and we have our routine back. #countrykids
