It was a beautiful day on Monday, and then the rain started, and it didn’t stop until lunchtime today! By this afternoon we were all desperate for some fresh air, so on went the wellies and out into the garden we went.
The three ran straight out, none of them would wear coats and proclaimed it warm. It wasn’t, but it was surprisingly mild. They made a beeline for the water table, which was full to over flowing as a result of the relentless rain…
While the 8yo wandered off, the 5yo looked on as the wee girl played in the (rather cold!) water. Not that it seemed to bother her in the slightest!
The new play structure is still under construction, but the main section is built. The ladder is balanced, and sufficiently steady to climb carefully.
But the boys still helped each other to climb up.
And the 5yo loved looking down and watching the action below.
The wee girl was thrilled to be playing with her brothers, and the 8yo was wonderful with her. I love to watch their interactions. She adores her brothers, and they look after her.
They are kind and patient; until she tries to poke them with sticks!
Although, the 8yo found it entertaining, on this occasion :)
Watching them play I could see how badly they had needed time outside. Their spirits lifted, they played together, there was no bickering, no cross words.
Instead there were smiles…
There was dancing…
There was fence painting…
And some take your head off Frisbee…
It was just what we all needed after three days trapped by torrential rain. A blast of fresh air to clear heads and bring back the smiles. A run around to burn off the restlessness and restore calm. A shared activity to end the bickering and remind them of friendship.
I’m linking up with the wonderful Country Kids at Coombe Mill, as always. Click on the badge to see what everyone else has been up to and be inspired to get outside!

Aaahhh made me smile to see the poking with sticks, Dáisy does this too. Beautiful photos & you can see how well they all get on xx
Yup, always poking with sticks!
I love watching your children develop, they are playing so well together now and clearly independently. You must feel very proud to step back and watch their interaction together. Wee girl is very lucky to have two such caring big brothers. Thank you for sharing their rain free play on Country Kids
Thank you Fiona, I do feel proud, and it is such fun to watch them play x
Just shows how much kids need to run about and let off steam. Always find mine are a lot better after a blast of fresh air – now I understand why all those nannies in old fashioned story books (maybe it’s just me that read them growing up!) were always taking their charges out for their daily outing! Lovely pics :-)
It is amazing what a difference it makes :)
It is awful when the rain stops them from getting outside. My two go a bit stir crazy if they are cooped up indoors for too long. I love that your three seem to get on so well, although I love the look of confusion on 5 yo face while watching the little one in the water :) That new play structure looks like it is going to be pretty spectacular!x #countrykids
I think we all go a bit stir crazy! The play structure now has swings, they are in heaven!
Never a truer word written. Time outside really can change moods. Lovely photos of their interactions. It is great when they play so nicely. Even while being poked with a stick. #CountryKids
Even when poked :) They do enjoy playing together, more so when I’m not hovering I think x
Rain, rain, rain! Same here, really! That play structure looks like it’s going to be huge. Your little ones must love it.
They do! The swings are up now, they’re spending every available minute out there :)
So cute to see sibling interactions! We had a lot of rain recently too and it’s nice to get back outside.
All the rain was difficult, everyone was getting very grumpy!
Aww looks like such great simple fun! After being cooped up inside it is so good to just see the kids run free a little isn’t it? Lots of fun :) #countrykids
It really is, we all needed it!
Love the new construction. I love autumn leaves #countrykids
Thank you, the kids love it too :)
Being rained in is no fun is it! I love the children’s climbing frame/house! It looks great fun Sara! #CountryKids
It really isn’t, everyone gets very grumpy!
They look so happy to just get out there and ‘be’ together. My pair wouldn’t bother with coats either, and were in fact at our water table last weekend! And the line ‘They are kind and patient; until she tries to poke them with sticks!’ is possibly one of my favourites ever! x
Glad you liked that line, I was smiling as I wrote it. It’s so very true to…!
How lovely to be able to get out in the garden again – your play area looks like a lot of fun. Such lovely photos of your children all having fun together and your wee girl has the biggest smile! :-)
Thank you Louise, it’s always great to get out in the garden x
I think I’ve said this already before, but I’ll say it again – Your garden is what childhood memories are made of! Lucky kids ;) #countrykids.
Thank you Dean, I feel very lucky that we’re able to give them this x
Wowee! I love your garden! Can I come and play? ;) Great photos too x
Absolutely :) Might be a bit far though!
This is lovely!! Nothing like getting out after being stuck inside for a while!!!
I LOVE the frisbee picture, great shot!!
The play structure looks pretty impressive too, looking forward to seeing that finished!!! Xx
She was a bit lethal with that Frisbee!
Lovely to see siblings playing together so nicely, even if there was a little stick poking from the boss x
She is definitely the boss :)
Looks like they were having a lot of fun! I love the play structure, already looks like a lot of fun xx
They are absolutely loving it!
It looks like they are really enjoying their new garden! That play frame is going to be amazing!
The play set is fab, they love, the swings are up now too :)
So nice that they all play well togtether. N’s been playing with his water table too – even in the wind and rain. When he saw your one he said ‘that’s the same water thing as mine’!
Lol, my lot often look over my shoulder and comment on blogs :)
WOW looks great fun, its nice seeing them all playing together. Climbing frame/house looks awesome :)
It is lovely to watch x
