Easter Sunday dawned bright and sunny and the Easter Bunny (the husband) hid lots of eggs in our back garden, all ready for an egg hunt.
The wee girl had woken up asking when she could go and find the eggs. In all honesty we’re not entirely sure how she knew that there would be eggs to find. But, she was absolutely certain that there were eggs, and that Sunday was the day she would find them.
Clearly with the amount of wildlife we have in our garden; squirrels, chipmunks, a groundhog, not to mention the coyote we saw after one of the blizzards; the Easter Bunny was not able to prepare ahead for this one! Cue some distraction of children while eggs were hidden.
Then wellies on (several feet of melting snow has left us with a rather swampy garden), baskets at the ready, and it was out into the garden for our egg hunt.
The 8yo swiftly found all his eggs, before I got a decent photo of him… I suspect that might have been his intention!
The wee girl however was a joy to watch, she was delighted each time she found an egg!
The 6yo was on a mission… but occasionally rather unimpressed when he couldn’t find one!
The playhouse had proved to be a popular hiding spot, with some eggs trickier to reach than others…
There was the odd moment when the ‘wrong’ egg was found (strict colour coding was in operation to ensure a fair distribution of eggs!). The wee girl being the guilty party each time :)
At last, there was only one egg left to find. The 6yo had looked everywhere, and even the Easter Bunny was beginning to wonder where he’d put it. Then it was spotted under some leaves, and surreptitiously kicked into a better spot!
The sun shone, the kids laughed and it was great fun; particularly watching the wee girl’s excitement. She was right, there were eggs to be found!

N was the same saying that we would have to go out and hide some eggs for him to find in the garden…but ‘we have to shut the dogs up because they can’t eat chocolate’. In the end, he put the eggs he’d searched for at nursery in hiding places around the house for himself to find, then promptly forgpt…I found one in my handbag the other day!
We hid plastic eggs with candy inside them, but I’ve seen what a squirrel can do to one!
Aww, how cute! We had an Easter Egg hunt too last Sunday, it was good fun, even if our little one didn’t really understand too much about what was going on. Great idea btw about colour coding the eggs – I’ll have to remember that in future years! We just shared ours equally afterwards, most of the kids were old enough to be OK about it :) #countrykids

Yes, despite the colour coding, the wee girl did try to sneak the odd one that wasn’t hers into her basket!

Now this is the Easter egg hunt of my childhood! Love the photos. If we had a bigger garden, I’d plan our own Easter egg hunt too instead of going out to a National Trust property, although admittedly, that’s also fun ;) #countrykids.
