I chose this weeks prompt as I wanted something I could write an upbeat post about. Knowing that I always feel a bit down when I return from the UK, I wanted to focus my mind on something amazing or curious or astonishing.
Sadly, after a long and tiring week, tonight I am not feeling particularly amazed, curious or astonished.
Rather, I am feeling washed out, dull and disinterested.
I find my mind wandering, not wondering.
I am frustrated by the children, the house, the chaos.
I am tired of the grind, the relentlessness, the mundane.
[I am distracted by the UK election results that are updating on another page!]
But, I am also conscious that this is temporary and that tomorrow is as likely to hold a moment of wonder as it is a moment of irritation.
That each new day holds the possibility of fascination, the potential to marvel, the opportunity for delight.
That one of the children will say something astounding or clever or hilarious; and I will wonder all over again how I came to be so lucky.
That the sun will shine, and the world will smile and I will wonder at how fast the winter has become a distant memory.
That a stray compliment or comment will brighten my day and I will wonder at the kindness of friends.
That I will hope and anticipate, and believe.
And wonder.

Oh Sara really wish I could give you an actual hug instead of a virtual one. You really do manage to juggle an awful lot of spinning plates. Be kind to yourself lovely lady. I hope your weekend is full of wonder xx
Sorry to hear you’re feeling blue. Must be hard leaving all your family to return home. Post holiday blues to the extreme! But at least you know that spring is in the air and summer is just around the corner, with no doubt the beauty of nature’s awakening to wonder at. That can cheer up the saddest of souls and like you say, your children are a distraction to wonder and marvel at as they grow and learn every day.
Sara, I hope you’re feeling better. It’s tough to put a smile on your face on such trying days (or weeks, or months). But I would agree with Renee. Be kind to yourself. It may not seem like it, but you’re doing an excellent job. Your kids are lucky to have such a dedicated mother who loves them so. Thanks for hosting this week. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
It’s always strange to come back from a trip and feel upbeat. So much to do to get back on an even keel. Glad that your children and the promise of a lovely spring are keeping your spirits up.
At least all that snow is now behind you and you can wonder at the marvels of spring and I’m sure the kids will soon put a smile back on your face!
I’m sorry that you are struggling with the mundane at the moment, I really hope you settle back into life soon and can shrug off the down feeling.
At least you realise that the blue feeling will pass and that every tomorrow is a new start. I wish you a wonderful one x
Wish I could give you a big hug, lovely Sara. It’s good to hear you’re being positive – “this too shall pass”, as they say. There is a lot of negativity in the world – but there is also such wonder, too xxx #ThePrompt
Beautiful words Sara. It’s just a shame that they’re ‘real’ and not just a story. However, I love that you turn it around and look at the positives that our tomorrows may bring x
Hugs to you lovely, I’ve been feeling a lot like this recently. It is important to see the positives, the wonder in the everyday and what each new day might bring xx
