Vacation means all three children involved in all activities… This can be great, as it is a real joy to watch them playing and laughing together. But, some activities appeal to one more than others, and sometimes it’s nice to be able to focus my attention a little.
Last week the 9yo had a play date with a friend, this meant that I had a couple of hours to spend doing something with just the younger two.
We often go to the Common, a park and playground in the centre of town. We have had many a fun afternoon there, but haven’t been for ages; not since before the snow arrived!
The city recently renovated the playground, providing all new equipment and upgrading the landscaping and accessibility, and this seemed like the ideal opportunity to check it out.
Both the 6yo and the wee girl love the ride-ons that are available for all to use, and they made a beeline for them as soon as we arrived, with the wee girl heading straight for a scooter and a tricyle!
It took a little bit of persuasion to get them to try out some of the new play equipment, but eventually I managed to guide them back into the shade (it was a very hot afternoon!). A ride-on that had escaped helped :)
The wee girl investigated the toddler options while the 6yo headed over to the swings and climbing frame for the bigger kids before he joined us again, trying out the climbing web.
We then all played on the seesaws!
There is one that has three seats, and I took these photos while sitting on the third :)
The spiral was fun to climb up…
…but the slide was declared too hot to slide down!
A quick refreshment break was followed by a return to the ride-ons area where the 6yo found a bike…
The wee girl particularly enjoyed the cars. Serious business driving…
…and motorbikes require the tongue of concentration!
The heat began to get to all of us at this point, and the kids declared it time to go home, but we’d had a great time trying out all the new equipment. We will be back!

That looks like such a great park and I love all the ride ons. Our two would be in their element! x
The ride-ons are great! Locals leave things there too, that they no longer want, and they gradually break, and get replaced by new additions! It’s a lovely way for kids to have access to a huge number of toys :)
Wow thats a huge playgroud ! Looks fun x
It is a big playground, lots of good equipment and lots of space :)
Wow that looks like a great playground! I’m sure they loved it :) #letkidsbekids
It’s a brilliant play ground, we were there again yesterday :)
That looks like an amazing playground. My children are obsessed with ride ons, although they are a little too big for them now. Looks like everyone had a great time.
