The Prompt: Broken

The Prompt 109

Lying in the remnants of a moment,
fractured by the explosion of a thought
and reduced to a fragment by a smile.
Crushed by the weight of expectation
and covered by the remains of assumption.
Lost in the gravity of a promise
and shredded by the shrapnel of commitment.
Caught in the blur of a second,
adrift in the age of an hour,
beaten by the passing of time
and overcome by the debris of a lifetime.
I am,
broken.

  1. I love the way you have found so many different ways to express ‘broken’: fractured, fragmented, shredded, beaten, overcome… it definitely lends itself to a poem! Thanks for hosting #theprompt

  2. Blimey this is good! I read it through a few times and it evoked a different memory every time. Absolutely wonderful writing Sara!!
