The Prompt: Care

The Prompt 115: Care

You claim to treasure,
yet the strain of love pulls tight
on your resolve.

You claim to cherish,
yet disappointment steals the smile
from your eyes.

You claim to nurture,
yet concern obscures the clarity
of your thoughts.

You claim to care,
yet fear eliminates the trust
from your heart.

  1. Powerful. Definitely a good reminder that all that we want and aspire to be or do, we can, because we wanted it in the first place.

It started off quite happy, but then this happened! Not my mood at all, just where the words took me :)

  2. I couldn’t say anything for a while Sara because this touched me, and I’ve been feeling lots of feels lately, but yesterday I got some therapy (doesn’t that sound ominous! It was Health Kinesiology, which was a bit weird, but fantastically thought provoking, and freeing, and I feel like I’m getting clarity on things now, and I can see that I was feeling guilty for not caring enough, and that was why I got upset. But I do care enough. Today I’ve been on a (slightly grumpy) creative whirl, and I’m feeling good, and so I revisited this poem. It’s still really touching, and it does stay with you. But I’m not crying now. Win.

I think this is one of the best comments I’ve ever had. I’m sorry that the poem made you sad, but I’m so thrilled that it touched you. What more could I want. Thank you xx

  3. This is a brilliant piece of writing full of such powerful words. The last two lines really resonated with me – I find it hard to trust because of past fears but it does help you see how this might affect others. Thank you for linking to Prose for Thought x
