Siblings: Summer 2016

Summer, I’m going to miss you. What a wonderful time we had. And, what a fabulous time these three had.

Lots of fun, laughter, sunshine and adventures. We ticked most things off our Summer Bucket List, some of them many times over. We enjoyed time with family and friends. We visited New Hampshire and Cape Cod, we spent many glorious days at the beach and made the most of the few rainy days by seeing the big summer movies.

The summer saw the three shift gear again. I had worried that the shine of the first few weeks of vacation wouldn’t last and that they would begin to fight. That ten weeks of holiday would be too much for them. But, while there were moments (as is to be expected with siblings), they enjoyed every activity, every chilled sofa day and every adventure.

The 7yo annoys the wee girl, the wee girl drives the 7yo nuts and the 10yo sighs a lot. But, there were far more moments like these than any other.

I feel genuinely blessed that my children get on so well. And, having said that, I’m actually happy that they fight (even though I hate to listen to it): it shows they care and that they trust each other.

And, they learn a lot from sorting out their issues, which they increasingly manage to do by themselves. The 10yo is starting to take more responsibility and is often the unofficial peace keeper! Well, he tries anyway. The 7yo generally ignores him, and the wee girl makes the most of the attention, or should I say drama :)

But, when I see them sitting in companionable silence; no bickering, no teasing, no need for chatter; my heart bursts. They are so lucky to have each other.
