Snapshots of 2018: April

April seemed to fly past just as quickly as March did, although it was slightly less chaotic. Still, hard to believe that it’s nearly May.

I do feel that we’re on the run in to the end of the school year though, and I have to admit I’m already looking forward to the summer. Especially after the weather we’ve been having!

April saw us celebrate my younger son’s ninth birthday, host my daughters class birthday party and enjoy the wettest April vacation ever. Spring soccer started, and my little girl is playing for the first time. So far so good, but I’ll reserve judgement on that one! And, the spring/summer swim season started. I thought my eldest would enjoy the month off between seasons, but he lasted all of a week before he started asking when swimming started again!

Week 14

My younger son turned nine! A group of his friends came over for a pizza and movie night, and he had a great time. And, he loved his cake. He’s reading the Maze Runner series at the moment, so it seemed like an appropriate theme. I was quite pleased with how it turned out.

Week 15

I had no break on the cake decorating front as, with some less than ideal planning on our part, my little girl’s birthday party was two days after her brothers! She asked for a Tinkerbell and fairy garden theme. Toadstools were a must. I had a lot of fun designing and making this one, and she loved it.

The rest of the week was thankfully calmer. March into April is always busy for us with two birthdays in quick succession, so I always breathe a sigh of relief when we’ve successfully made it through both!

Heading into April vacation we all slowed down and you could tell we all needed the break. And, I managed to get a rare photo of my eldest! This slightly amused expression is probably the one I see most often at the moment. That’s tweens for you.

Week 16

April vacation was very welcome when it came. We were all in need of a break from routine. We did’t have anything planned, we just took the days as they came. The weather was AWFUL! I am in awe of everyone who finished the Boston marathon. The rain was monsoon-like all day. We went to the cinema! The best day was the Wednesday, so we took a day trip south to Mystic in Connecticut and had a lovely time visiting the seaport and the aquarium.

The weather improved a little into the weekend, thankfully, as myself, husband and boys ran our first 5k race of the year at Breakheart Reservation. Gorgeous location for a race, but a brutally hilly course! We did it though, and it’s really wonderful to see the boys running with us now.

Week 17

I’ve had a busy week as I’ve been getting the house and the kids organised before I take a trip… I am off to New York tomorrow. For a week! I cannot wait! I’m meeting three school friends, and I’m super excited. A whole week to myself, in an amazing city, with good friends.

I’m still pinching myself!

Hope you all have a wonderful week. I’ll probably be a little late with commenting this week :) But, I’ll catch up when I’m back!

A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.
Eudora Welty

I began writing ‘Snapshots’ posts last summer, when my days were too busy having fun with my kids to spend time writing about the fun we were having. They are a way for me to record the moments, but not feel obliged to write War and Peace. Simply capture the days as they happen. No SEO, no pinnable images, no stress. So, I’m going to continue to write them, and keep those moments from running away.

  1. Not just April and March, but the whole year seems to be speedily moving. All of these pics are beautiful. It looks like a winter season.

  2. I’ve missed this, blogging, and especially these blog hops! I haven’t been blogging so much myself since our separation, amd now that the twins are older, but I’m trying to get back into it, and this is an inspiration. Thanks :)
