It was inevitable that I would choose a prompt that stumped me,
It was inevitable that writers block would hit.
As I sit here waiting for words to flow,
I find distractions all around.
That washing needs done.
Must just do the dishes.
Ooo, chocolate.
Ten. Minutes. Later.
Let’s just check Facebook…
Say hello, give a few likes.
What’s my reach?!
Oh look, someone just ran 3 miles (a personal best, no less!),
Another new diet secret revealed!
Who wants to look ten years younger?
Please share, they said I couldn’t get 1,420,342 likes…
Where are the posts from my actual friends?
I know; Twitter,
I’ll just have a little look.
Say hello, chat for awhile,
Oh. That looks like an interesting link…
Twenty. Minutes. Later.
Must write, now where was I?
Ah, yes, it was inevitable…
But, I really should do some reading,
Mustn’t forget that linky.
And, look at all those lovely comments,
I’ll just respond to them,
Quickly.
Hang on, did I remember to confirm that play date,
I’ll just send a quick email,
Really,
Really,
Quick…
Thirty. Minutes. Later.
Must write… It was inevitable!
What was?
Instagram, how I love you.
Let’s just see what everyone is up to.
Oops, missed a ‘what are you doing now’ tag.
How can I make writers block look interesting?
What’s that you say, help with your homework,
Of course darling.
Can we do a craft?
Of course sweetheart.
Let’s just have a little look on Pinterest…
Forty. Minutes. Later.
MUST write!
But, look at the time, I really must start dinner…
It was inevitable that writers block would hit.
It was inevitable that I would choose a prompt that stumped me!

I think our heads were in the same place this week (although I’ve been stuck for months to be honest) with ideas swirling around but none solid enough to grasp onto, so bloody frustrating!
I think they were! It is frustrating! I have lists of half formed ideas, but I just can’t quite get them down on paper…
What a brilliant take on the prompt Sara. I really respect your honesty, and that you’ve choosing prompts aimed to take you outside of your comfort zone. I’m having massive writers block where my book is concerned, but am confident it’ll come back again when the timing is right :)
Thank you lovely, I do try to choose prompts to challenge me too; some weeks that works, others not so much :) You have a lot on your plate at the moment, you’ll get back to it when you’re able xx
Oh dear! Well, you are not alone with the distractions or the writer’s block. Sometimes I feel like a cheat, spending more time on social media than on writing or reading. Pity that success as a blogger is linked to this. On the other hand, a little distraction is a good thing. And social media has a strange way of throwing up writing inspiration when you least expect it!
That is very true! Perhaps I just need to go with the flow :)
Love this – this is exactly what I often end up doing when I get a minute to sit down and write!
It’s terrible isn’t it, we finally get five minutes to ourselves to get something done and we get distracted all over the place!
THat sounds so like me! I’m such a procrastinator!
Yup, I am the worst!
Oh, yes! This! I’m terrible for it! It does feel inevitable some days. In fact, I’ve an article I should be writing right now, but I thought I’d best just catch up on some blog reading…. ;-)
Ha! I’m glad it’s not just me :)
I love this writing. I have writer’s block many times too and get a lot of things done instead of writing.
It can make me very productive with other things! But, it’s procrastination really :)
You describe my every day…so so eloquently. Bravo!!
Oh, thank you! I’m glad I’m not alone :)
Love this! Describes a typical day for most us so well. I know I’m distracted by so many little things and then by trying to remember what all the little things were. Good to know others are going through the same thing!
Thank you! I do find it very difficult some days to settle to anything!
Great take on the prompt this week, I also found it a hard one. I also have many weeks as you describe, it is so easy to get distracted as life is always so busy!
It is sometimes hard to quiet your mind long enough to focus, isn’t it? It’s good to have lots of idea, but there is a certain discipline in actually getting them down on (virtual!) paper :)
Love this! This happens a lot to me too. Oh and I”m currently suffering from writer’s block – there ought to be a term for bloggers too! … Bloggers block? I’m actually thinking of staying way from linkys for now, just till I get my “groove back” The thing is, I love linkys! Sigh. Hope all is well on your side of the world #PoCoLo.
Bloggers block, that’s what we should call it! I’m suffering badly at the moment, probably need a break but I’d miss it too much!
Awww A lot of time I have to admit that I am running on empty =P
Would post a mediocre post before just so I can keep up with some linky (SSShhhh this is our secret ok). I am after the stats of course. Now I have given up & trying to overcome this obsession with rankings. Slowly getting there.
Love your post. Even your writers block entry is creative =P
#theprompt
I think we all go through that Merlinda, but I would definitely rather post better quality, less often. And thank you!
Loved this-it’s so hard to write with all those distractions! But of course sometimes all we want is distractions!
Absolutely right :)
I love this! I feel like this so often, it’s so easy to get distracted by all the other bits that come with blogging. Thanks for hosting xxx
It’s difficult to not be distracted by it!
I was a little bit stumped this week too – although as I said in my reply to your comment I actually ended up writing two different versions of an ‘inevitable’ post! I have had a hard time finding the time to concentrate on my social blogging this week as I got *massively* distracted by discovering PicMonkey and experimenting with that! X
Well, I loved your post, really interesting. Although, I would love to see the other one too x
Haha, this is great Sara! I guess I assumed as you were choosing the prompt you’d already have a post all written up in mind! :). This reassures me that you write a fresh thing each week like the rest of us! And poor you – as the host you don’t have the option of not writing anything! Am so impressed with your creativity, kx
Thank you Kat, I always think that I’ll get myself organised enough to write ahead (or even just choose the prompts a few weeks ahead!), but I never do! I’m right there with you all, writing the posts :)
This made me chuckle… A great piece of writing, and a brilliant lesson in listening to yourself and writing something true rather than trying to force something that isn’t there. I find your prompts so inspiring, leading me to make connections and articulate ideas that I don’t think I otherwise would. Thank you x
Thank you Sophie, that’s such a lovely comment, it’s exactly what I had hoped when I started the linky x
Brilliantly written! This is EXACTLY how I get on a regular basis – even during my PoCoLo reading! Thank you so much for linking x
Thank you Vicky x Distractions are everywhere :) Thanks for hosting x
Just popping back to say thanks for linking to Prose for Thought too :) x
My pleasure, thanks for hosting x
For someone who had writers block you so very elegantly jotted it down on your blog! You identified so many ‘obstacles’ that can sometimes get in the way of something that you really love and enjoy, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. I so identified with this – a great piece of writing about not writing! #theprompt
Thank you x I am terrible for procrastinating :)
I love this Sara. Great prose for sure!! I think we all feel this. and even if I don’t have writer block I always get lost in the world of social media. I keeping telling myself comment here, real quick, jump on instagram real quick and go to twitter real quick. It’s NEVER real quick. hahaha This poem reads like what I go through every single night. Sometimes I just need to focus on a blog post. My mind never stays in one place though. hahaha Love the prompt. Sorry I don’t always make it every week. I will try. #prose4t
Thanks Jenny! So many distractions, not enough time :)
I really enjoyed this; the truth in it and the form. Very clever (says she, uninspired by a prompt and on the internet instead!)
Thank you, I often hope I’ll find inspiration from my surfing…!
