In a fit of optimism I have now packed away all the winter clothes… Other than a spectacular thunder storm on Wednesday night into Thursday (and to be fair, we actually needed some rain for the plants!), the weather has been lovely all week.
I am very aware of the looming summer holidays (all 10 weeks of it…) and I want to have as many places scoped out in advance for entertainment/distraction/sanity saving purposes as possible. And that would, of course, be my sanity I’m talking about!
Hubby has taken the kids to the beach at Breakheart Reservation a few times, but I hadn’t been before. So, with the sun shining, off we went. It turns out that I have almost been there – on a walk that was cut short by the 4yo falling into an icy pond!
The boys set off scooting, keen to get to the beach.
I can’t believe that after a lovely walk through the woods (on a paved path, suitable for bikes/scooters/buggies) you arrive at this:
It is absolutely stunning! I imagine it gets quite busy in the summer – you can swim in the lake – but last weekend it was so peaceful. A beach surrounded by a forest – I could spend hours just sitting, contemplating, in these beautiful and calm surroundings.
The 4yo’s obsession with sticks continues and this particular one provided much entertainment.
As did this one! They are swords, boomerangs, magic wands… You name it – his imagination is just endless!
The 6yo just loves the water and was happy to sit and watch it, the trees and the reflections.
There was of course the now obligatory rock climbing :) But what fantastic rocks, some with a stunning view out over the lake from the top.
There is also a (reasonably) well shaded play park (a major consideration with the wee girl and my very fair, ghost like, boys) with picnic tables.
I suspect we will be here quite a lot over the summer!

Oh my word, what a stunning place. I love it’s name too. That’s one of the things about the US that I love, they call things such great names, I wonder was there once an Indian Reservation there? Your photos are gorgeous and I love the one of your 4 yr old in his shades – how cool is he x
The name is great isn’t it?! From what I can gather it’s believed that it was a Native American campsite, used seasonally when moving to/from the coast… The 4yo does rock the shades – he’ll be very pleased to hear he looks cool – he always checks that he ‘looks smart’ once he’s dressed in the morning :)
That looks like a real hidden Gem and on such a beautiful day it looks like you were the only people there? Somewhere as beautiful as that should be packed on a sunny day, perhaps the other parents lost the battle of the screens! So good to let their imaginations run and enjoy climbing and exploring our beautiful countryside. Thank you for sharing on Country Kids, it might not be such a hidden gem now!
I think we were just lucky, there were a few people there, but spread around the park, trails and beach. I’m expecting it to be a lot busier in a few weeks time :)

Oh yes, for some reason Monkey has to have a few stones in his pockets at all times. I have washed so many now, surprised the washing machine is still in one piece!

Sounds great! SO beautiful as well! My wee man always finds a stick too when we are out and about! It’s great seeing them use their imagination. It’s nice finding a place where there is something for everyone!
I love that about the parks/reservations here – they are really family friendly, even when some of the countryside is quite rugged, makes it so easy to get out with the kids. And sticks are great!
