It’s two weeks to Halloween!
Halloween is big in the US… They really know how to do it properly!
We’ve been getting ready. The decorations are up. Costumes have been chosen.
The kids are excited :)
Last year we got into the spirit (a little!) and put a few decorations on our porch and in the hall. Houses around us went all out, the decorations were amazing! So much time and effort put into creating fabulous displays for intrepid trick or treaters.
This year, we have gone a little bit further… Joined our neighbours in creating a suitably creepy destination for Halloween night.
The hall is decorated, wonderfully orange and glowing come night time. Windows have been covered in gel clings. There are pumpkins on the porch. A headless skeleton hangs, welcoming the postman!
Spiders have been busy on the bushes and porch. Gravestones have popped up in the front garden. Spiders are everywhere…
We have completed our first Halloween craft – decorating craft pumpkins, with paints and stickers. The temptation of trying the ‘glow in the dark’ paints proved too much, so the pumpkins still look rather pasty! Hopefully they will actually glow…
We have Halloween biscuits to bake, cupcakes to make and crafts to do. Parties, costumes and Trick or Treating are still to come. For the next two weeks it’s going to be all about Halloween!

Hmmm… I’ve mixed feelings about Halloween. I’ve always enjoyed watching a ‘scary’ movie, carving a pumpkin and having a special themed dinner for my son and his friends, but in the past decade or so it has become a BIG THING in the UK too and seems to drag on for the whole month of October. It all seems a bit overkill, and I often feel inclined to grumble at trick or treaters ‘go away, we’re not in America…’
You, of course, ARE in America – so have a great one! :D
Well, when in Rome and all that :) I have to admit that I wasn’t a particular fan when in the UK, but it was infectious over here last year, and the boys had such a fab time, that I felt I should get into the spirit (ha!) a bit more this year :)

Thanks – it’s good fun! The day itself is full of activities, from parties at school, to trick or treating in the town on the afternoon (all the businesses get involved), to real trick or treating at night!
It looks AMAZING sara! Can I confess that one of the reasons I want to move to the US is having a proper Halloween??? It is almost non-existent here in my neighbourhood and I am so jealous of you right now. x

I wish we were like this here with Halloween but NO. I always love to see what my American friends do. I have no idea if they do trick or treating where we live but I do have some sweets ready. There are a few bits I want to do this year, hopefully we get time to. Can’t wait to see more from your Halloween.
I was never that into it at home, but here it is just so much fun, you can’t help but get caught up in it all :) The boys love it – especially the trick or treating!
