Another lovely week here, another adventure with the boys. This time we chose to investigate a tower at the north end of Middlesex Fells (the same reservation where we had a beautiful woodland walk a couple of weeks ago).
In typical 4yo fashion, our expedition became a journey to rescue the princess from the tower. So, off we set, ready to do battle with dragons; fight through thorny bushes and tangled undergrowth; and evade the baddies! Getting to the tower involved a scramble up a wooded, rocky hill. The boys loved it, showing off their climbing skills…
And then we reached the tower…
The view from the top was fantastic, although the 4yo’s first question was, of course, ‘But, where’s the princess?’… We could see Boston and the sea in the distance.
The boys then practiced their ‘rock climbing’ (!) a little more…
We took an easier route back down the hill, taking in some of the mountain biking trails. A new game was started – ‘Bike up, bike down’ – to ensure that if a bike did come tearing down the hill the boys (and me!) might step out of the way quickly and in the same direction!
And, for once, we actually remembered to take a photo that had me in it :)

It is lovely – we’re very lucky! Still miss the Scottish countryside though (if not the weather!).

What an amazing tower, is it a water tower or just for viewing? It looks like the type of thing you’d get over here, not what I imagine in America, but then am I right in thinking that Boston is one of the older cities? That’s a lovely photo with you in it.

It is a water tower – and yes, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the US – I suspect that’s part of why I like it so much, it is a beautiful city with a real sense of history. Thank you for reading xx

We have an old water tower near us that look identical to that. I must get down there at some point as it’s surrounded by bluebells – thanks for reminding me!
