The theme for the Family Fun linky from Denise over at Mum on a Mission for a Better Life last week was cupcakes. With all the birthday parties and cakes we’ve had over the last few weeks (including this past weekend!) I completely failed to link up on time and baking cupcakes didn’t appeal! But, I liked the theme so I decided that we could make some craft ones instead :)
You will need:
Paper plates (or circles of card)
Paint and paint brushes
Coloured paper/card/tape (we used patterned duck tape and coloured paper tape)
Cottonwool balls
PVA glue
Sparkle (we used glitter glue)
Sprinkles (we used shiny beads)
Cover one half of your plate with paint/paper/coloured tape; this is your cupcake case. Then glue cottonwool balls on to the other half of your plate; this is the frosting. Then decorate with glitter glue and beads!
I joined in this time and made the one with the patterned case :) The 5yo made the other two. The blue one was a blueberry cupcake that had been taken out of it’s case…
The 5yo really enjoyed designing and decorating his cupcakes!

So simple, yet I can see how it’d keep them happy and entertained!
So many options for decorating, the 5yo really enjoyed it; another one that I could leave him to do by himself :)
He is so proud of his work! I love your crafts activity lately! Is it a holiday in there as well? #LetKidsBeKids
He was, he enjoyed making them! We’re on holiday next week :)
aww these are so cute! It really is all about cake in your house at the mo, love it! :) xx #letkidsbekids
It really is, isn’t it! Going to have to come up with a new theme :) Actually haven’t done anything for Easter yet!
Wow, this sounds like such a fun and relativey easy craft. I’m going to do this myself someday. I’m very clusy and blind, which is why I do best with kids’ crafts.
It was good fun, and nice and simple, I enjoyed making mine :)
Simple, easy and effective, great. My two would love this.
I like things that they can manage to do on their own :)
Ooh, those look rather good. Especially the blueberry one out of it’s case :-) fantastic idea x
Thanks, I was just looking for something simple to do :)
That does look like fun. I think my kids would enjoy that :)
Thanks for linking #LetKidsbeKids
It was nice and easy, it’s good to have things they can do by themselves sometimes x
This looks great fun and nice and easy for little ones too. I so need to get us some cheap paper plates as seen so many crafty things we could do with them lately. #MiniCreations.
I do loads of stuff with paper plates! I pick up big packs of cheap white ones :)
what a super cute idea! i love that you can use any bits you have at home :-)
Yes, I didn’t need to buy anything for this one, it was all in the craft drawer :)
Looks like a lot of fun! It’s amazing what kids can do with the simplest material.
Absolutely, and it’s great when it’s something simple enough that they can manage without help :)
What a great idea, looks like you had great fun doing it! x #CreativeChallenge
We did, but I love things that are nice and easy that the kids can manage on their own, they love it when they do it all themselves x
I love these – and I am sure my toddler will too. Thank you for sharing the idea! x
Thank you! Really simple and fun :)
is there anything you can’t do with a paper plate? I love it. I am coming over to your house for craft time. You must have a huge room full of supplies. I really need to start getting more stuff in for the kids to play with and have fun with like this! So creative. I love cupcakes. #minicreations
I do have quite good craft drawers :) Partly because I love art and crafts myself, so I can’t help myself when I go into the craft store :) And, paper plates are fab!
A lovely idea, if only you could eat them too ;)
Ha, I think we’ve had enough cake in our house recently!
Brilliant! I bought some paper pates this week so we will be able to make some cupcakes of our own :-) #minicreations
Thanks, paper plates are great :)
Ah another lovely activity! Think Bella would like this one!
Thank you, I’m enjoying finding things that the 5yo can now do on his own, he feels so proud of himself x
What a lovely craft idea, they look great and easy for children to get stuck into.
Thanks! I like to find things the kids can manage with minimal input, they like to be able to do it themselves x
Grace says – what a fab idea and a little bit different which we always like over at KidGLloves. Loving the photos too xx
Thanks for linking to #minicreations
Thanks Grace x
