A long, hard slog.
Hot and heavy, stiff and sore.
Months of tiredness turning to exhaustion.
Harder this time,
A sense of something different.
Your age, they say.
Questions, questions.
Do you know what?
You must want?
Wouldn’t it be lovely?
Maybe this time it will be a girl.
Questions, questions.
Why would it matter?
Why do you ask?
Why should I mind?
Expecting, expectations.
Two beautiful boys…
Three beautiful boys,
Expected.
Arrival.
All planned, relaxed.
A date agreed, elected.
Calm.
But, more questions.
Really, I don’t mind!
Practiced and sure.
Theatre becomes theatre,
Comedy moments, a student tumbles.
Attention shifts.
I’m still here, you know!
Sudden laughter, exclamations.
‘Look what you’ve got!’
It’s a girl.
Surprise.
You can find this weeks #ThePrompt linky here. What has surprised you? Do you like surprises? Link up and share with us!
What a clever way to document this special surprise! Beautiful writing!
Thank you x
It’s funny how people just assume you must be simply desperate for the opposite sex when you have two the same… We didn’t mind either and were really surprised at our 20wk scan when we found out. Fab little poem, as always xx
And, the number who commented after that we had our perfect family now, as if another boy wouldn’t have made that the case! Drove me nuts :)
Oh love this!! A wonderful surprise :) #theprompt xxx
Thank you :)
Ha! It seems that a few of us immediately thought about finding out our baby’s gender as a classic ‘surprise’ (its the one surprise in life that you can anticipate and derail I guess!). X
It is one of the few real surprises left, isn’t it?
We have gone down a similar route this week :-) It’s funny how opinionated other people become when we get pregnant!
They really are, aren’t they!
Fab post Sara, people always assume that you MUST want a girl don’t they? You couldn’t possibly be happy with all boys! *eye roll* drives me bonkers really. Fab post about a lovely surprise though :) xx #theprompt
They really do! Especially if you already have boys. Drove me mad!
Every time you look at the wee girl you must smile and think perfect surprise!
I do, she might be a pain in the proverbial rather a lot of the time (personality, I keep telling myself!) but I do smile :)
Ah this is lovely Sara. I’m with you on keeping the sex a surprise. My third was also a different sex to the other two but I so didn’t mind what I would be having…..it annoyed me that everyone assumed we were hoping for a boy this time! Nowt as queer as folk ;)
Thanks Suzanne x It amazed me, before and after, how every one assumed that a girl was ‘better’ as we already had the boys!
So sweet! This post captures the beauty of birth.
I’ve got three kids as well – two boys and a girl, but my girl is the eldest. We found out each time although that was more to sate parents who were frantically knitting booties and hats. We didn’t mind either way with number 3, who was a surprise for different reasons!
Oh, thank you!
Oh Sara this is fantastic! I love it. And so glad you got your girl. A perfect perfect family you have all complete now!!! Love this #prose4t
Thank you Jenny x
