This week saw the last of our summer guests leave, with my mother returning to the UK last night.
Her departure arrived too soon, as always.
It is never long enough, there is always something not done; an outing delayed, a visit forgotten, a friend missed. Always the words next time spoken; we’ll see that, do that, watch that.
And, next time is soon, but not soon enough.
So, we will wait.
The 8yo will tell me he misses Granny, but he knows he will see her soon.
The 5yo will forget, from time to time, that she has gone home and will run to tell her something.
The wee girl will ask where ganny? and look confused to see her back on FaceTime, no longer face to face.
For now, it is time for us to return to our normal day-to-day. Our normal routine; of school runs and homework and play dates. Of activities and outings and treats.
For now, we will look forward to Christmas; our next time.

Aww…I feel for you. I’m an American in England and miss my family terribly, especially when they have just been over visiting. How often do you get to fly over? :-)
We moved two years ago and I’ve managed three trips back so far… It is hard x

That is very true, I sometimes wonder how we survived before ;)
Sorry you had to say goodbye to your mom. Long distances are so hard. We used to live 12 hours from my parents and it made very visit special, but sad at the end. I’m glad you have another visit scheduled though because it makes the time go faster. I would say my word this week is rhythm. After Labor Day, I always feel like fall routines can really start. Of course, it’s still really hot here so it’s all on my head!

That’s lovely. My parents visited the UK this summer. Kids loved it. We all loved it. We don’t get to see them as often though – normally 3 or 4 years in between visits. It’s difficult being so far away but the kids have a wonderful relationship with them. We do Skype and email and telephone. Hope you have a lovely Christmas.

Absolutely, I was very glad to get the next trip booked in before she left x
It is so hard saying goodbye, we moved to Australia and when my mum visited and then went back to the UK it was so very hard to say goodbye, so I feel your sadness. It does help to keep busy, throw yourself into new projects to take your mind off the loss of her going. Hope you have a good weekend :) #WotW
