A wave of anxiety, dragging
and troubling
nerves fraying, fingers drumming
and twitching.
A sense of unease, tightening
and stiffening
breath catching, pulse thumping
and quickening.
A stirring of agitation, enveloping
and churning
eyes flickering, heart pounding
and leaping.
A feeling of alarm, mounting
and straining
muscles tensing, adrenalin rushing
and sweeping.
A burst of terror, growing
and flooding
senses drowning, feelings crashing
and overwhelming.
Until
The substance of horror, smothers
and suffocates
All sense is lost, panic numbs
and paralyses
as fear grips.

I would have to agree with Sophie, the structure of this perfectly mirrors the uneasiness when one is in fear. The words are so intricate, but the rhythm is erratic–a perfect combination for describing fear. Brilliantly done, Sara! Thank you for The Prompt! Lovely to see other people’s works week after week. I agree, the way it reads is very tense, capturing the emotion perfectly. You have such a way with words when it comes to describing the essence of your prompt words. They would make a fantastic reference for use when writing fiction.
