Breakheart Reservation is one of our happy places.
We have spent many a wonderful day there, whatever the season. It’s always on our Bucket List for the summer, and this year is no exception. We made our first visit, of what I hope will be many (if it ever stops raining!), a few weeks ago.

My younger son and daughter both love the lake, and played happily for several hours. They were sad that there were no fish to chase on this occasion though. They had discussed their plans at length, intent that this would be the year they’d manage to catch one.
My older son is less keen on the lake now. It is very shallow, and while perfect for the little ones, doesn’t hold quite the same excitement for him now. He does however love to sit on a rock and read. Looking out for fish and snapping turtles as he whiles away the hours enjoying his latest must-read.
My daughters love of, and confidence in, the water continues to grow, and watching her play is a joy.
The warm water and beautiful surroundings make for a perfect day, one that we will repeat as often as we can.

Having fun with my children over summer vacation is my absolute priority. The blog comes very much second (or fifth, or fiftieth) on my list. BUT, last summer I missed keeping a photo journal of our activities. It’s such a wonderful thing to look back on, and it is the reason I started writing this blog in the first place. These ‘Snapshots’ posts are a way for me to record the moments, but not feel obliged to write War and Peace. Capture the days as they happen. No SEO, no pinnable images, no stress. Just keeping those moments from running away.

It looks like such a wonderful place and I can see how you go back so much. I’d love to sit on a rock and watch turtles too!
We love it there, at any time of year, it’s so beautiful and very calming. Good for the soul :)
We recently went swimming in a lake for the first time, at Cotswold water park. Some lovely photos here. Looks like you had a great time! #CountryKids
We had a lovely time, thank you, lake swimming is great!
What a beautiful place to visit, it’s great that you have it so close by that you can visit fairly regularly! The kids look like they’re having a blast in the water, it’s a shame they didn’t find any fish to catch this time. Your eldest sat on a rock looks so mature now, it’s great that he happily comes with you and relaxes watching the fish and turtles as he reads.
Thanks for sharing with me on #CountryKids.
It really is a great place to visit, we love it. I find it very calming, and the kids always have a great time :) And my eldest is looking far too grown up!
The children do look very happy indeed. I love that your eldest still loves it there even now he’s too big for the water – but just found a new way to love it. #countrykids
Yes, they love it there, which is wonderful – as it’s one of my favourite places too :)
How beautiful I love the clear water my two would be in their element. Great they have a plan of attack to catch a fish I hope next time they manage it. #CountryKids
We’ll see! They’ve been trying to catch fish for a while… But, they have a plan!!
Looks really beautiful. #countrykids
It really is x
This looks perfect and warm too! Oh for weather like this. I do love lakes. I find them so tranquil. If only we had one nearby. Lovely photos btw. And the kids are growing up so fast! Yikes. #countrykids
It is warm, it’s lovely :) And very tranquil, I love it there x
Glad your eldest can keep himself entertained. I’m worrying what mine will be like this summer. I fear he will want to be with his friends more than us #countrykids
There has definitely been a shift this year, and he’s currently at a sleep-away camp for two weeks! He still enjoys time with us, but he always takes a book :)
What a beautiful location to visit. I love how green the shots are. #countrykids
It is beautiful, I love the setting, it feels so peaceful when you’re sitting by the lake, surrounded by trees.
What a lovely place to have close by, it looks perfect for summer visits. Beautiful photos too! #countrykids
It’s fabulous, we’re really lucky :)
What a stunning place. I can see why you all love it so much. Love the photos of your daughter and younger son having fun in the water. That rock looks like a perfect place to sit and read too :-) #countrykids
They had a lot of fun :) I think I would have quite liked to join my eldest on that rock with a book though!
oh wow, the water is so clear; I want to get in! we love paddling in waters, lakes and in parks. this looks beautiful, love the scenery. great photos. #countrykids
Thank you! It’s a beautiful place x
Do you know the loveliest thing is to see your children loving it there year after year, and to see them growing up each summer. It looks such a tranquil place to explore #CountryKids
It always looks beautiful there. I’m not sure N would want to go in if there were fish! #countrykids
