Word of the Week: Holes

holes

This week can only be about holes. I have holes all over my house!

Off the back of our flurry of activity on the house front, the electrician has been here all week rewiring upstairs, all of it. The old (read: dangerous) knob and tube wiring extended a little further than hoped (there’s a surprise!) and the safest, easiest and cleanest (from a wiring perspective, not dust…) thing to do was rewire everything.

That essential work aside, we now have light upstairs!

The distinct lack of lighting in the bedrooms, and upstairs hall, hadn’t been too much of a problem in the summer. A little frustrating perhaps, but manageable.

On the increasingly dark autumn mornings… not so much!

This being a very old house none of the bedrooms had central ceiling lights, just very poor wall lights. Now, they all have a proper light!

I will blog about the whole project separately, but suffice to say, we are ridiculously happy to have light :)

How has your week been, what would your word of the week be?

  1. Oh wow – it’s not great to have a load of holes but fab to have working lights! I look forward to reading about more of your house transformation soon X #wotw

  2. Sounds like a lot of work going on then, and I can just imagine the holes and dust! But to have light, it must be worth it! Look forward to seeing it all x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

  3. Wow – how have you been managing without light?! Funny to think that not even very long ago houses we’re lit by candlelight. Glad it’s sorted now and hope the holes are filled in!

We had fairy lights in our bedroom and a table lamp in the wee girls! This was fine until it was dark in the mornings, made finding clothes etc a bit tricky :)

  4. Aha, so you have seen the light this week then. Good news, but sympathy on the dust – hopefully you won’t need to endure it for too long. And the good news is, you have light! :)

  5. Let there be light! Glad you were able to get that project done. We also bought an old house, and there is always something or other needs updating or tweaking to better serve our needs, we are never really finished. In fact, we have some wiring projects coming up in a few weeks, so my #WotW may well be Holes as well soon! Nice to meet you!

I suspect that the projects in our house will be never ending :) Fun though, I’m quite excited by it all, if a little overwhelmed at times!
