The Prompt: Anticipation

The Prompt 57

Intuition;
Awakens an idea,
Alters a perception,
Breeds an awareness,
Changes a mind.
And inspires

Hope;
Fills a heart,
Promises a dream,
Seeks an answer,
Seeds a thought.
And grows to

Expectation;
Believes a chance,
Trusts a purpose,
Describes a need,
Builds an ambition.
And leads to

Anticipation.

  1. Enjoyed reading this, deceptively simple yet also profound. I love the spareness of it and the controlled use of language – something I find difficult as I’m rather verbose!

  2. I love the way this builds up. It does flow very naturally. You’ve very good with your poetry. I wish I felt more confident about writing it myself.

  3. I would have to agree with Renee–this is a very clever poem. I like how it builds and literally makes the reader anticipate with the cadence and the perfectly fitting words that you use. It’s one of my favorite pieces by you so far. Thank you for sharing and for hosting another great edition of “The Prompt”

  4. Oh I do love this poem – even the way it physically looks. Every word used has been clearly thought through and it ebbs and flows to a crescendo. It’s a beautiful poem, beautifully scripted

    That’s so simple yet so clever. How do you do it? Poetry doesn’t come naturally to me. To say so much in so few words is an art form. You have a real talent for it.

  6. I love this. Such a beautiful way of describing the chain that goes from intuition leading to anticipation. I love the lines about hope fills the heart and promises a dream.
