After I wrote my first How does your garden grow? post last week (and read more lovely gardening posts) I found myself looking at my garden through new eyes, again.
Last week I focussed on the tubs we had planted.
Showing how well the boys seeds and plants have grown.
Sharing my surprise that I have managed to transplant the Vinca, peas and basil without killing them!
This week I will take you on a tour of the rest of the garden.
We have a very shady back garden, with two lovely trees. The one where I have planted the Vinca (where it seems to be doing quite nicely!) and one where the boys put up bird boxes (a bit too late for this year, but hopefully next year… If the bright colours don’t put the birds off!)
We have plenty of easy to maintain ground cover! Hubby is a fan of ‘easy to maintain’…
After reading one post last week, I now know that we have Hosta :) It has just starting flowering over the course of this week. And, we have one gorgeous blue hydrangea (I had to google this one, just to make sure I was right…I did say that I was a bit rubbish with plant names…).
And, and, and (said in a super excited voice!) we have half a dozen or so teeny tiny baby cucumbers and some peas, and the basil is starting to come away too!

Thank you – wish it was a bit bigger for the boys, but we overlook other beautiful gardens so the setting is lovely! The boys made the boxes at a Home Depot ‘craft’ morning :)
Watch that host! I have 10 of them lining my drive and they are around 7 feet in diameter now. They do no know and cannot guess that they are going to be compost at the end of the season. They don’t do much but sit there and when they flower it’s about a week and then they bolt and get ugly. I am ripping their little selves out of my garden in the dead of night so they won’t see me coming . . .
Ha – they do seem to be everywhere! It’s amazing how they disappear over the winter and then, suddenly, they’ve taken over the garden! They are lovely and green and lush, and will hopefully stay under control…?! At least for as long as we’re here!

I love the trees – the kids can run around without me having to chase with sun cream every five minutes :)
OH your garden is lovely and calming i think its that enormous tree you have which is fab your lucky to have a blue hydrangea you must have a certain soil type as i know people put coffee granules in their soil to make their hydrangea turn blue
The tree is lovely, we have picnics under it! I did not know that about hydrangea – we weren’t here this time last year, so missed it flowering. It was a lovely surprise to see such a beautiful blue :) I have not given it coffee!
I find myself inspired by all of the other ‘gardeners’ linking up as well! It does make you want to get out there and make some stuff happen, doesn’t it?

It really does – even just finding out the names of what we’ve already got is a start for me! But now, I want to plant some more that will be ‘mine’ rather than inherited from the previous owner :)
Love the birdy boxes – so sweet! I nailed one to a telegraph pole in our garden last year and forgot all about it but now there are deffo birds nesting inside – so good to see!
I love the big trees and the shade that you have, we have no shade in our gardens and we all find the sun too much at times – maybe I need to work on creating some….

Thank you! I love the bird boxes, the boys made them at a craft thing at our local Home Depot :) Fingers crossed that they are used next year.
I am so glad for the shade – with my fair skinned kids, I can let them run around without having to chase them with the Factor 50 every 5 minutes :)

Oh Sara these are amazing pictures, the bird boxes are superb and as for the colour of that Hydrangea it’s just fabulous. Your garden is looking fantastic and I bet the boys are dead chuffed to see all the results x
Oh, thank you! I just hope I can keep it that way… Although everything seems to be surviving without too much intervention thankfully! Really pleased with our tubs though, the boys are thrilled – just wish I’d planted more now :)
Was that a little peek at a white picket fence I saw in one of those photos? Oh I’m so glad you have one of those, as I love the whole American/New England image it evokes! Wow those trees are so tall! I bet it’s just lovely for you to have the shade from them. Does it get terribly hot there? Are you having a similar heat wave? So lovely to see more of your garden this week xx
It was indeed – plastic I’m afraid, but it looks the part! The trees are fab – we have two in our garden, but there are mature trees in all the surrounding gardens, and we overlook a small wooded area too. The shade is wonderful, and much needed – look ahead forecast for this week is showing that it will be 36C by Wednesday…! It’s been hot for about a month now – I think it’s lovely to have such warm weather (it’s been hovering around the 30C mark), but hubby and the kids are not huge fans :) And to be honest, I think 36C might be a little too much!

Thank you! It is very hot at the moment – the shade is wonderful, my fair skinned children would not be able to spend nearly so much time out in the garden without it – I’d spend all my time chasing them with the sun cream :) Thanks for stopping by and reading x
