It’s been a busy couple of weeks again, hence the double entry! My mum arrived from the UK, it was the wee girls birthday and hubby went to Mexico for a week on business. So, it’s been all go!
Week 12
Monday
Just because we love a challenge, the painters started today. They were of course late, so I had to run to swimming having handed them a key in passing with a ‘see you in a couple of hours’! I got back to find that they had made great progress though with the kitchen and bathroom done, and the dining room started!
Tuesday
It snowed again on Monday night, so we woke to a good 6-8 inches again! Got the call from the City to say that the schools were closed, again, at about 6am… So we had another snow day, bored children and no painter… So we baked.
Wednesday
The painters returned, again late, and just as I was running out the door, this time to music class! I spent the morning keeping my fingers crossed that they would finish before my mum arrived… They did – and I love it! Hubby took the kids to pick my mum up from the airport and I ran around putting as much back out on shelves etc. as I could to make the house looked lived in again :) My mums flight was early and she had made it through immigration before hubby made it to the airport (not helped by a car sick child – every time!). Lovely to see my mum, and looking forward to her three weeks with us.
Thursday
My mum and I spent a quiet day at home as she recovered from the journey. Well, it was quiet apart from the playgroup that I had forgotten I was hosting! I had a lovely couple of hours with 10 mums and babies in the house – it was very quiet when they left! All in all nice day catching up with my mum though. The boys are very excited to have Granny visiting, so the afternoon was spent with fairly hyper children!
Friday
We took it fairly easy again, the 3yo isn’t in school on a Friday, so we headed out shopping in the morning and then had a visit to Starbucks as a treat for him. In the afternoon we went to a party at the hotel that we stayed in when we first moved over to the US. We got to know a long term resident while we there and she ‘adopted’ us, as she has several families. She always hosts birthday parties for the kids, and as we are now part of the group, she arranged a party for the wee girl and the 3yo, along with another little girl who coincidentally shares her birthday with the wee girl. A fun afternoon!
Saturday
Today was the wee girls first birthday! We had a lovely day, with lunch out, cake smash and presents. The boys also built their first snowman – despite all the snow we’ve had, we hadn’t got round to building one before! We had a really lovely day – I can’t believe that the wee girl is one already…
Sunday
Hubby headed off to Mexico (until Friday…) after lunch. My mum I spent a fairly quiet afternoon with the kids (more cake was eaten!) conserving our energy for the week ahead :) Not quite an early enough night for the boys, and it took me two hours to get the wee girl to sleep… Not a good start to the week!
Week 13
Monday
I headed off swimming with the wee girl in the morning, managing to keep her awake until it was time for class – just! Headed home and had lunch with my mum before heading to school to pick the boys up. They were tired, so we had a quiet afternoon. A much better evening with the wee girl, but both she and the 3yo woke me during the night – always the way when hubby is away!
Tuesday
We took it easy on Tuesday, I was pretty tired from my broken nights sleep. The 6yo had garden club, and for the first time year it was nice enough for them to actually go outside! I picked him up from club and he had had such a good time – full of stories – and clutching a little pot that he’d planted cucumber seeds in :) I allowed the wee girl to have two naps today… Big mistake, another two hour bedtime!
Wednesday
It was the wee girl’s music class in the morning and my mum joined us. Great fun – and it was lovely for Granny to see the wee girl having such a good time. I had made sure the wee girl didn’t nap before class, so as soon as we left she fell asleep. So, mum and I were able to have a very relaxed lunch in town while she slept. As the boys had been very well behaved (always good when daddy is away) we took them to Target to spend the pocket money that Granny had given them. They are very good at knowing how much they can spend and finding something that fits the bill. Wee girl only had one nap, so a much easier bedtime…
Thursday
By this point in the week when hubby is away on business I start to get really tired! So, we had a quiet day. I made sure the wee girl only had one nap, so bedtime was good again! Sadly, I think that’s it for two nap days :)
Friday
As it was Good Friday the 6yo had the day off school, so in the morning we went to a fantastic park not far from the house. In the afternoon the boys went over to our next door neighbours and dyed and decorated eggs for Easter. I nipped out to get my mum and I pizza for dinner, as is traditional on a Friday! Hubby got home at around 9pm, thank goodness!
Saturday
Swimming in the morning for the boys and the hairdressers in the afternoon for me! A lovely spring day, at last, so the boys got out the sidewalk chalk and played outside for ages before heading to the park before dinner.
Sunday
Hubby had brought more than a bottle of tequila back from his trip to Mexico, and after a bad night I insisted that he went to the ER to get checked out! As a result the boys egg hunt was a bit later than planned! We then baked some Easter cookies before heading over to our next door neighbours for drinks and desserts. All in all, despite the trip to the hospital, we had a lovely Easter and the boys had a fantastic day, with the requisite sugar high!

Wow what a super busy couple of weeks! Bet it was lovely for you to see your mum. And 6-8 inches of snow – puts our meagre amount to shame :) xx
It’s been a bit hectic! Spending time with my mum is great :) The amazing thing with the snow here is just how much can fall in such a short time! The worst was the 26 or so inches we got in 24hrs at the beginning of February :) Thanks for commenting xx
I honestly can’t believe how busy you are. You really are supermum.
Garden club sounds amazing and like such a great idea.
I hope you all have fun with your mum and that the snow stays away.
Thanks again for linking up.
Oh, and a belated Happy 1st birthday to your girl xx
Thank you :) It’s funny, but I often think that I’m not doing enough with the boys! But I never seem to have a spare minute :) Its really lovely having my mum here, going too quickly though! Thanks for birthday wishes, and for hosting the link :)
Sounds like a crazy week. Hope you had a lovely Easter
It was very busy! Good fun though :) Thanks for commenting xx
