The boys went back to school on Monday. After an extended holiday due to the snow, it was good to send them off (for all of us!).
My mum returned to the UK on Tuesday.
Our day to day reality is back to normal. The school run, activities, classes, homework, bedtime!
So, my word of the week is:
As yet, still slightly more aspirational than reality, but we’re getting there.
Calm, control, patterns. Familiarity.
I take great comfort in routines, however flexible they may be (!), and I know that the kids do too.
A return to normality for us this week, and while I’m very sad that the holidays are over, it will do everyone good to be back into our routines.

A popular choice of word this week, understandably. I think familiarity is good for us, and while the holidays are great, they wouldn’t be ‘holidays’ if we had them all year round! Thanks for joining in with #WotW
Precisely :) I do like my routine!
I think once everyone settles into the routine it’s a good thing, this first week has been hard going in my house though! Sounds like you’re faring up better :) #WotW
The boys have settled really quickly, and it takes their minds off missing Granny! Routine is good :)
We function faaaaarrr better with routine too. Glad things are getting back to normal!
#WoTW
Me too :) Thank you!
Ahhhhh routine!! My word to and mine and the childrens favourite :)
I do enjoy the holidays (and not having to get up at 6!) but I do like getting back into routine!
I miss the holidays already! How long til Easter? I had a great moment the other day when I was looking at the diary and thought that the summer term was only 4 weeks long. Then I realised I’d forgotten about May. Sign. Hmm, as you say, ‘routine’…
Well, I do love the flexibility of the holidays, but I do always feel a bit disorganised by the end of them, it’s nice to get back in to routine :)
Yes routine is always good! I also like a bit of a rest from routine but then I like to go back to the routine – you know where you are & I like to have a purpose! :-) x
Exactly! I love the holidays, but I do like to get back to feeling on top of things :)
Yes ‘routine’ definitely sums up a lot about this week that’s for sure #WotW
It certainly does :)
Same here for this week, Emma was back to playgroup, felt good but I missed our holiday relaxation and fun. #WotW
The holidays are good, but there is something settling about getting back I to routine x
I’m hoping after my challenging week this week we will get back into routine next!!
I hope so too xx
I can imagine how important bring flexible might be this time of year :)
Or ‘being’ even!
Yeah, love our routines, but they definitely need to be flexible :)
Flexible routines are the way to go! I crave flexibility. It’s something that I’m working on with my littlen. His autism makes our routines very rigid x
I think routines without flexibility must be really tough. We like our routine, but if it’s changes, it changes. Good luck xx
I totally agree – always good when everyone knows where they stand!
It is, isn’t it?!
I love routine but getting out of it sometimes is just as important – it’s about balance I think. My kids all thrive on it :) Lovely idea for a post.
Completely agree, weekends are more fluid, during the week we try to stick to routine as much as we can :)
It feels nice to be back to routine now that the kids are back at school and life has once again returned to normal. Bliss!
It’s good, isn’t it?!
Routine can be good too! :) xx
Absolutely :)
