Sunday Showcase 2

Sunday Showcase - Featured Image

Welcome to the second week of my new Sunday Showcase feature, where I highlight one of my favourite blogs, recommend a few of the posts I enjoyed reading this week and capture a moment that made me smile.

A blog I love…

PrintThis week, my featured blogger is Renee who blogs over at Mummy Tries.

Renee is a mum to three gorgeous kids and writes honestly and openly about her life, both before and after children. Her older daughter has recently been diagnosed with Autism and Renee is charting the journey that her family are now on, which has included a recent decision to homeschool.

Renee published her first book Become the Best You in late 2014. Part memoir, this is a self-help book with a difference. No jargon, no cliches, just practical advice written by someone who has lived it, and I would highly recommend it. Currently working on her first novel, Renee is a real inspiration to me.

So, if you don’t already know Renee’s blog, do head over for a read, and this post about autism and acceptance is a great place to start.

A post I loved…

It’s been another busy week here, with a houseful of sickness. So, not much time for blog reading! But there have been a few posts that I particularly enjoyed.

Sam from And Then The Fun Began shared some very interesting thoughts on being an introvert. Having just shared my own thoughts on my extrovert daughter, it is a subject that I am very interested in right now.

Sophie from Sophie Is… wrote a fascinating post on Women and Writing which got me (and everyone else!) thinking about our bookshelves.

The wonderfully funny and thoughtful Jenny from Unremarkable Files wrote a great post about marriage, working as a team and saying thank you. Couldn’t agree more.

A moment I loved…

Most Fridays, after ballet, the wee girl and I head to Starbucks for a treat. This has become one of my favourite times of the week. The wee girl chatters away, and we’re moving into proper conversation territory, albeit rather surreal ones at times!

This week was no different, really, except that over the last few weeks she has started to take her colouring book with her to work on while we chat (instead of demanding the iPad!). I love how absorbed she gets as she colours, and this week it meant I was able to chat to an older lady who clearly wanted someone to talk to, even if just for a few minutes. And of course, my friendly little girl chatted to her too :)

Every week the wee girl is growing and changing, becoming more and more independent and mature. A year ago, trips like this were challenging and could quickly descend into chaos. Now they are so much fun, and it’s moments like this that I will treasure.

So, there we have it. Week 2 of Sunday Showcase… I will be back next Sunday, sharing more great blogs with you!

  1. Couldn’t agree more with your choices. It’s always a pleasure to read MummyTries.
Your Wee Girl is growing so fast, and it is a lovely age when the conversations start and their intrigue is pricked. I used to enjoy these conversations too, as you jump from subject to subject, interjecting fact with fiction. It’s great fun!
Hope you had a lovely weekend
    xx

  2. Only just spotted this thanks to Tracey’s comment on my post so thank you very much for picking my (more or less) one an only post from the last few weeks! I am always thinking about personality traits and trying to get my head round what makes us all tick and how best to accept and understand ourselves and our families too so yeah, interesting subject. Love that the wee girl chose colouring over her ipad I wish my two would do that from time to time! X
