Enchantment falters,
in the face of despair
as contentment leaves
us, alone with regret.
Let down and forgotten,
the luster of illusion
gives way to grim reality,
reflected in defeat.
Fortune lost to mistrust,
as lies told in defense
of failure, sting
with disappointment.

I like this poem, I’m feeling it too! For me it works better if contentment leaves us/ but that’s just me.
Ouch! Down with grim reality! Beautiful writing as always
I found the first two lines extremely striking. Love how you have used contrast all the way through. #theprompt
