Word of the Week: Measured

measured

This week had the potential to be chaotic. The first half of the week saw us running from one activity to another. The second half was more measured.

This was partly by necessity (there really are only so many hours in the day) and partly through choice (sometimes you have to take a step back).

We rush through life; classes to go to, birthday parties to attend, friends to see, shopping to do. Events, chores, obligations.

It’s fun; things to do, people to see. But it can also be draining.

And, we can’t give the best of ourselves if we’re exhausted.

This week I have taken a step back, given myself a break. Switched off; for a couple of hours a day anyway :)

I’ve been more measured in my choices; slower and more deliberate; more considered.

I know myself well enough to know that this pace won’t last, but for now it has been just what I needed. And perhaps it might teach me something about measuring my days differently; not by the number of tasks completed but by the quality of the time spent.

How has your week been, what would your word of the week be?

  1. Great word and I do like the point you make about quality of time rather than tasks completed. I’m having a day today with 101 things to do, but when Little Man woke from his nap, I abandoned it all and we both just lay in his bed cuddling and reading stories for an hour. I didn’t miss my work & chores, and they’re always here! Sounds like a good week to me, enjoy this state of mind while it lasts! Thanks for sharing with #WotW x

    1. I’m hoping that I might be able to maintain this slightly more measured approach… Time will tell!

  2. That sounds good to slow down a bit and consider things. I usually go at a fast pace too, then every so often I remind myself to slow down a bit and think, consider. I think it help you refocus and recharge.

  3. What a good outlook and word. I’m glad you’ve found a way to get the best of the world. It is so easy to get caught up, saying ‘yes’ to everything and as you say, far better to take the time. I hope you continue with the outlook, as best as life allows. x

  4. I’m a bit like this sometimes – I kind of go a bit all or nothing though – if I get into some kind of productive phase I feel like I have to work it for all it’s worth, but then I go too far into procrastination. Not quite the same I know – you’re more measured approach sounds like a very good idea – a tonic even! :-) X #wotw

    1. Oh, I can definitely procrastinate, in fact that’s often my reaction to being too tired and busy. This step back has been better, I’ve remained productive, just in a different way x

  5. Sometimes it’s good to have a bit of a breather, even if that means you’re ready to fling yourself at it again or not. Measured is a great word for that x

  6. Measured is a good word. You’re right, we can’t give the best of ourselves if we’re tired out, but it can be hard to stop. So well done for taking a step back xxx #WotW

  7. That’s a good word :) I’m trying to do too many projects all at the same time and was too tired to find out what the best word for that would be! X

  8. This sounds like exactly what I need to do next week – there’s still so much to do but slowing down just a little would be a very good idea. I hope you manage to keep the balance too :) xx
